Asphalt sealing is not hard. The prep and repair is the key to a long-lasting, good looking job. You can buy the GOOD cold patch asphalt online - Pleasant's Hardware (or Ace) - think it's called EZ Street. A friend who used to work for the County turned me on to it. Works great. 7-8 years ago at my last house I got a quote for $2500 or so to repair / seal my asphalt driveway and parking pad. I did it myself over the course of maybe 2 weeks? That was after work for an hour or two here and there and then a full Saturday to get it finished up and ready for sealer - which I did on Sunday.
Big holes, use gravel and sand at the bottom and compact the patch WELL.
Can't remember the name / brand of the sealer, but I ordered from the same hardware store that got the cold patch. They don't stock it. Same guy recommended it. It's THICK. Stirring that stuff was no joke. But it covered great and it looked / lasted better than the neighbor who paid someone to do theirs.
