I was just curious as to how much concrete block is and how much labor is in your area? I live in NC and it is 1.50 per block and 2.00 labor with one guy that we checked in to doing our block for our garage, does that sound right for labor or is it a little high??

That doesn't sound to bad for NC It depends on how many they are going to lay some times but that seems close I paid $1.35 per block and I talked them to a $1.50 per block.

I'm in Southeastern Virginia. Getting ready to build new home and shop. Block here is $1.59 and labor is $2.25. I've tried to get a little better deal on the the labor, they will not budge. I'll wait untill winter when they are starving.

8x8x16 block $.89 at Lowes, labor $1.50 - $2.00

True, but I've heard from many people that Lowes gets "leftover" or just out of tolerance blocks from many places that make them, such as 4D Builder Supply for us. And considering some of the blocks I saw this summer, I don't doubt it. 4D sells 8x8x16 blocks for 1.55-1.57 and I never priced out labor.

So block is any place from free to 1.59 each then free (lay it yourself and have a hurt back) or 2 bucks a block. I am cheap but I will pay 2 bucks a block to have someone else have the hurt back in the morning. Layed block after high school not going to do it again.

I'm in NC also, and my new garage is all block. Mostly 8 inch, but there are about 200 12 inch below grade. I paid $1.15 for the 8's,and I think it was $1.60ish for the 12's. They are 17 course high, and the garage is 1986 sq feet.I paid a buddy cash, and got 3000 blocks laid for less than $5000. I need to upload my new pics and post them, but you can search some of my old posts to see pics of block in progress.
