Cost of Using A/C

Is there a way to figure (guesstimate) the cost of using a window unit?

An easy, after the fact method, can be done if you have a digital meter readout of use. If you have ever read your meter, sort of daily, at the same time you can get a fairly good idea of your useage, KWH divided by days. Our bills show a daily useage for the last year already computed, which runs 1.1 to 1.5 KWH depending upon the season. You should see a daily increase in the readings if you plug in one of those window units for a few days. If you have feel for your daily use and plan on doing some canning or something similar on an electric stove............you'll be amazed what that can do to your bill. Did just that a few years back when we did some dill pickles. Our juice costs about 11 cents/KWH at the end of the bill (including all the BS charges)

I haven't used it at all yet, it isn't in. I just bought it today and will be putting it in when finished with the drywall and painting. I just just trying to figure up the whole amps>watts>KWH thing to see about how much this thing would cost to run for a hour.

The Internet says 15 amps. The price of KWH, I'm not sure. I will take my usage and divide it by my monthly charges and see.

its probably around 10-13 cents. 15Amps is 1800Watts, and thats at full force, so if you run it at 50% it will cost you roughly $2.50 a day to run.

The strange part is when I was at Home Depot the unit said 9 AMPS but when you look online it says 15 AMPS. Either way it isn't two bad.

how do yo figure up the watts? Do you take 15x120 even if it is 220?

1800W/1000(a kW) = 1.8 KiloWatts

1.8kW X 24 hours in a day = 43.20kWH

43.20kWH X .10 per kWH = $4.32 A day at 100 %

If you are home every day, run it continuously. It will cool and dry out the space then cycle on and off. If you run it intermittently, you will probably use as much electricity unless you seldom run it.

Program it, plug it in and it'll tell you everything about how much energy this appliance is using.

If it was rated @ 15A the window shaker would require a 20A circuit & have a 20A cord cap, my WAG would be somewhere between 9-12 amperes max for a window shaker w/ a 15A attachment plug.

Its run is probably 9 A, requires a 15A circuit, depending on rates about 15 cents an hour give or take a bit.

I have a 1 ton Friedrich heat pump window unit in my 20x24 garage here in Houston, TX. I run it all the time, keep it set on 83 unless I'm out there working on a project all weekend, then I run it down to 77. It has added an extra 200 kWh to my bill here in the hottest part of the summer, which works out to around $20.

Keep the following in mind:
It is HOT here in Houston.
My garage has a black roof, but it does have TechShield whatever that's worth.
The building is insulated with R-13 everywhere except the door.
Friedrich makes some of the most efficient units on the market.
