Cost to replace top Garage door Panel?

I'm looking to replace the top panel for the garage door. I would like to have a row of windows. The garage door is a Raynor that's 18' by 8' tall. Let me know.

Just paid $500 installed for two new top panels with glass windows on some 9' cheap Clopay doors. Wife backed her pristine BMW into one door, damaging two panels, the bumper, the trunk and her pride. Took the opportunity to upgrade because the top rows of each can be reused to replace the damaged sections. It really only has me out of pocket an additional $200 over the plain panels.
I was also going to DIY but I don't have anyone to help me lift so I figured it best to let the pro handle it. Too hard for me to borrow a trailer and risk damage during install to save $100.

I tried to buy 2 panels for my 9' Clopay door after my wife drove into it. I turned out a complete door purchased on line was about the same cost as trying to get 2 panels.

Actually, installation of the top panel is a very easy DIY project.
It would take 2 guys about 20 minutes to do.

Depending on the construction of the panel, you could also buy the window(s). Do cutouts and install them without removing the door at all.

This would probably be very time consuming and not come out as clean as the factory. Don't think you'd save much money either after buying the windows alone. The ones in my door are thermal pane.
Replacing the top section is the easiet one to do howerver with an 18' span, that panel will sag over time even with a strut.

Possible, he could want something super fancy. We did the cutouts on Our commercial doors at the shop and it was easy. There is just an inner and outer "ring" with the glass fitting into a recess and they screw together from the inside. Just like all the entry doors with glass at Home Depot.

Seriously, your very first problem is whether a new panel matches EXACTLY the style of your old garage door. Often there are changes in texture/seal design over time by manufacturer so your new window panel will stick out like a sore thumb or have gap where panels connect. Also, they price window panels by themselves VERY HIGH as they know they've "GOTCHA" when you're looking for just one panel.

You may be better off in long run selling your old door complete on CL, and then just buying the new door that has a window panel. This will ensure all your panels match up.

I say get some old windows and a glass cutter and cut them down to size. Cut the solid panel out and put the glass in, a little trim and you are good to go. $50 or less.
To get a new panel, do you have the 283433 door or the 533356 door?

Wonder if Lexan panels would work just as good? At least that way, you don't have to worry about the possibility of broken glass especially if somebody would try to break in.

Where I live nobody would be breaking into the garage. The town I live in is rather very safe. The house sits on a acre and a half. Also it's in a subdivision. The beginning of the lawn is like 400' away from a main country road. So anyone driving late at night don't realy go through the neighbor hood. Plus this is a top panel for the garage door which is 8' tall. It would be very difficult to look in.

My garage doors were all solid panels. I needed light so I cut in and framed all these windows into all four roll up doors.......

I did have to change springs on 2 doors as the weight prevented them rolling up correctly no matter how I wound the springs to compensate for the additional weight of the windows and trimming.

Looks good! The OP never did state whether it's metal or wood. Big difference!
