Get a member to buy you a gift card for the amount of the item (plus tax).

I get a friend to buy me a $250 gift card every once in a while. I use it till its out, then have him buy me another one. Works like a charm :)

There is/was a guy on eBay selling a few of those Thorsen sets.

What is the level of quality of the hardware that is included?

Most likely just cheap china type hardware. I am more interested in the drawers cabinet.

I will put all my own stuff in it if I dont like what they come with. Just use that crappy stuff for mowers and what ever household repairs that I will need to do.

My local Costco has them and one open and on display. I don't think is worth $40 at all. The fasteners are local quality China stuff. One drawer is totally broke or twisted...bottom line no longer works. Not for me.

If you all are just interested in the cabinet, you can get a pretty good deal on the Durham cabinets from MSC when they have the 40% sales for 4 or 5 items. Sometimes it's 35% off. You buy can buy the housing and the drawers and either get an adjustable drawer or a drawer divided into something like between 6 and 32 even compartments, with some exceptions like 21 compartments.

Still probably more expensive then the Costco, but you've got a quality American-made cabinet that can take a lot of weight.

I have three of them.

Do you have a link for them at MSC?

I have the Costco 4-drawer one from a few years back. Strangely, the drawer that was supposed to be SAE hardware was actually filled with all metric, just the same as the metric drawer. Anyhow, it's a fair deal for the boxes/slides, even if you don't use the hardware. However, if I'm working on something late at night, or just a thrown/together prototype, having this stuff on-hand has really saved me quite a few times. Metric bolts, electrical connectors, snap rings, o-rings, etc. There is a good bit of rather useless stuff in it though.

By the way, they're on sale in the maintenance or super saver flyer for the month of December. Combine that with the 25% for 5 five items sale going on for a few days (until Fri. -- but offer probably back again this month), and you can get your self the housing and four drawers for a relatively inexpensive price.
