I have a garage with 16' ceilings will the Costco lights work for that high of a ceiling I won't be doing much work in it just storing stuff and the occasional job.
Hard to spend $100 ea on fixtures for high bay.

I'm not a fan of these lights, but....anything will work better than nothing! And they're inexpensive. And if you're just storing stuff, it wont make much sense to pay alot of money. At 16', they wont be optimized, but they'll be OK. You can hang these from chains, so the lower you hang them, the brighter your targets will be. For storage and general use, I'm sure they'll be fine. Get as many as you can afford, space them evenly over where you think your work area might be and add more later as you can.
Good luck,
CD

I am a fan of these lights, I've used them in two garages, and wouldn't hesitate to get more, if I needed them. I prefer the wavelength they use, so much-more cheerful than 2900K lighting.

Instructions say you can link up-to 4 together, keep that in-mind when you're planning a layout.

Yes, that's good advice to lower them from their anchor points, it will make the lighting better/brighter because of the proximity to you. Throw some threaded eyelets into the sheetmetal, and lower them to where they are out of the way of your uses, but provide the best coverage.

I have 36 of them up mounted tight to the ceiling in my shop. 14 feet off the floor.

They do the job just fine.

Assuming you're referencing Feit shop lights.
Is the typical Feit shop light correct for a 16' ceiling - No.
Is it adequate for storage - Yes
Is it adequate for working - No (unless you mount them at 8ft which makes me question the purpose of the 16' ceiling.)

On a lumens/$ basis, this Greentek highbay (link) is the same price as a $20 Feit shop light.

I was looking at these feit shop light last week, too. Costco is curently running $8 off promotion, making it $20 per piece.
Any suggestions on using them in low ceiling garage? Mine is about 8', I was considering flush mount them.

I'm generally a big fan of Costco. But I haven't been a big fan of LED things branded Feit at Costco -- almost all of them have been ****, IMO, with lifetimes much shorter than expected. I haven't, and won't, try their shoplights though -- as they say, "there's no education in the second kick of a mule".

A year or so ago I got three shoplights of a different style at Costco. Completely encased in a latched-on translucent housing. Looked like they might work in a few areas for my basement. Nope. The one I opened had a motion sensor that went on randomly at all hours of day or night irrespective of its sensitivity setting. The others went back unopened.

My conclusion, unfortunately, is that most Costco LED stuff is second-rate.

The only one I've really liked was v1 of the CAT worklight. The SO worklight was OK, too.

My 2 cents. I'm glad others have had better results!

I have them in my garage currently and they're about 8-9' off the ground. They work really well and I have them linked into the light switch, so when I turn on the lights, they turn on as well (plugged into sockets that are incorporated into the lighting). They have a keyhole style mount if you want to flush mount them as well as chains if you want to hang them. What I did was pre-mount them to a piece of thin plywood and then screw the plywood to the rafters. However, the weight was enough to cause the fixture to "rip" through the flush mount keyhole, and I eventually just zip-tied them to the plywood.

Where have you been hiding since 2009? It is strange to see one post from such a long term member.

I have found them to be good quality, and worth the expense. I am moving and will need MUCH more lighting given the lack in my next garage. I'm planning on at least ten of them, if not more. At $20 a pop, they're a good deal. I currently have 6-8 mounted in my garage, and bought a few as backups.

Those motion LED were not FEIT and if you did a simple review search on Costco online they got horrible reviews for the reason you mentioned. They have since been discontinued.
FEIT did have their fair share of issues years back.........think Costco helped them to get there stuff together. Especially when compared to the Sam’s stufffrom Honeywell or Lights of America.

Are you saying the keyhole in the fixture that is intended for mounting isn't strong enough to hold the fixtures own weight?

That is correct, the screw pulled through the narrow end of the keyhole holder and the light fell off the screws. Luckily it is shatter proof and did not break. This happened to 3 or so of them.

One of those reviews is probably mine, although my Google-fu is not strong and I can't find any Costco online reviews. The product is discontinued and unlisted on Costco.com, but those Winplus LED utility lights with motion sensor may still be available at some Business Costco warehouses.

Stay away from this one.

I made it [emoji106] I'm part of the crew:bounce:

I was just about to get these. A little more than Costco but with the Costco shipping no much of a difference. I'm not a lighting expert but isn't the 5000K more natual white light than the Costco 4000K? Are they brighter than the Costco ones?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/slredirec...9107590&id=1182401548558226&widgetName=sp_atf
4000K or 5000K is the color of the light, not the brightness. 5000K is a little bluer. The regular flourescents that were used commercially for decades were 4100K
"cool white". I find that to be the most neutral. Since ir is so easy to produce leds in different colors they make a lot of stuff in 6000K or 6500K and call it daylight or sunlight. It is just a very blue white. Ya pays yr money 'n makes yr choice. I like 4000K, can live with 5000K and can't stand anything bluer. But that's me. An incandescent bulb is around 2700K. Brightness for all bulbs is rated in lumens.
The eye is a little more sensitive in the blue region so bluer light may appear to be brighter.

I think they work great. I do have one that hums intermittently, out of 32 total in the barn.

Mine follow the roof slope, walls are 16', highest lights are over 20'.

No warm up time and lots of light for the power they pull.

I'll buy more if needed.

That's very positive information. If Feit gets their quality in line (and reports here indicate they are) they'll be very good value and consistent with what Costco try to offer their members.

I have 16' ceilings in my shop. A 32' X 22" open bay. 2 rows of 3 fixtures with the Feit 2 bulb, LED fixtures hanging 6" or 8" on chains. No problems with them at all. Also, I have mounted them as task lighting over the work area for more definitive lighting at the work area. Expecting lights 16' up to illuminate the floor isn't reasonable. I am happy with them for the price. Plus the later version allows them to be plugged into each other saving on outlets, conduit and wiring.

The quick and easy solution to this is to simply use a fender washer with your screw to anchor the fixture to the ceiling beam or rafter at each point of attachment. You don't even need to use the keyhole locations, you can just run the screw through the sheetmetal and into the rafter.

The Costco lights are usually $20 each with free shipping.
Lights of America have no frost lens...........deal killer, there are dozen other posts on the Honeywel/ LOA short comings.

Well, I broke down and tried one of the Feit LED shop lights. After about a week it's flickering constantly and annoyingly, and will get taken back to Costco over the weekend.

My impressions on Feit lighting products have been reinforced -- it's junk. :headshake

You could have just got a faulty unit, I've had 4 wired in my garage for over a year with zero issues.

Sorry to hear that one person has had Costco light troubles. Well my mileage has varied. I started putting the Costco lights in my shop three years ago and now I am up to eight or nine. They get cycled on/off almost every day. All of them are working fine. I like the daisy chaining feature because my garage is outlet challenged.

Possible a fixture issue ?. I would check the HZ, load voltage, neutral and ground on the supply with quality meter.

I have 25 fixtures spread between two shops. No issues over the past theee years.

^ This is a fair comment. It's installed in an outlet in the original wiring of the basement ceiling of my 1937-built home.

There are six or eight other fixtures in the shop area of the basement, some with LED and some fluorescent, with no flickering, but those are different lights on a different circuit that my brother installed firmly to code ten years ago. I'll try the Feit shoplight in that circuit.

A properly sized screw for the slot should not pull out. So you are saying the sheet metal failed? I must see a picture. The light weighs less than 5#.

I agree with PT Doc
For attaching things like that to wood, I like to use lath screws for the oversized head.

Amazon says the shipping weight for those fixtures is 2.1 pounds.

Agree ^^^^^^^. I did not use the keyhole. The newer version the keyhole is meant for the supplied cable hook system not a screw.

I drilled the sheet metal frame and mounted to a rafter with flat head screw..

They work just fine up to 22' in my shop. I had 16 in my previous shop, 20 in this one. Zero failures and great light. In both shops I put them all on one circuit.

I have 8 of the Costco LEDs in my little garage flush mounted at 8'4" and have had no problems for just over 2 years, except that 2 of them flicker when using my TIG.

I have six or eight in my basement shop. Had one that was DOA, but the others have been fine for a couple of years of daily use. The light is much better than the fluorescents they replaced and the don't hum or flicker. I don't know yet if they'll actually last 40,000 hours or not, but I am well pleased with them so far.

I'll chime in...

I have purchased and installed about 44 of these lights in my two garages over the last three years, and all are working perfectly. I had one defective unit out of that entire batch (one bank of LEDs was dead) but fortunately I discovered it before installation.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I do like them. :lol_hitti

Update: As suggested by doubleot, I've been testing the fixture in a different circuit, one installed by me right from the panel, not original wiring in my eighty-year-old house.

The light that flickered on the other circuit is perfect on the "clean" circuit. So no issues with the light at all. Thumbs up.

(I put the previous LED lamp in the "dirty" circuit, and it continues to work just fine, as before. The Costco Feit shop light is apparently slightly more sensitive to line quality, but that's not a failure.)

Just need to point out that Costco doesn't make shop lights, they sell other manufacturers lights. Are all the shop lights you guys referencing the same Feit brand shop light?

I just saw this post. I have 8 of them awaiting installation in a rental. Guess they're going back. I didn't look at them closely enough when I bought them...I assumed they were linkable just like the previous ones I bought.

I too am very happy with the FEITs I put in my garage. 16' ceiling and the light intensity is great.
