This one is on sale $80 off till June something... local warehouse is about $20 cheaper @$319.
I got one, and two non-u-shape. Nice quiet AC. and wifi app is great.

When looking it up on HD its showing $399Home Depot has the 8k Until for 299 online. I went to the store to get one and they said since it was on the website and showed pickup in store or ship to store I had to buy it online as they did not have them. I was standing next to a stack of about 20 of them. I asked if they price matched Amazon (they had it marked 299 at the time) and they did. They price matched Amazon but not their own website.. oh well.

Them ba$tardsthey must have changed it as that screen shot I took was this morning...
We bought two of the GE ones. One in our bedroom and one in "my room", my room is always hot in the summer. We close the doors to the bedroom, lock the pups in there with us crank up the temp on the house AC and turn on the little window unit. Hooked it to a Killawatt meter and it will take roughly $.20 to run the AC over night. We are interested in seeing what the bill is going to be.

It's not just inverter unit. The U shape one have some advantage with windows closed and leaving a smaller gap than the regular shape windows AC unit. There is another design not sure from who, which is the upside down U design but those only fits onto thin wall windows good/better I think.. I have total 3 Midea units, two regular 12K one I ran last year.. it cools well especially when it takes the moisture out of the air, also cools it. I got this U-shape one this year when it is finally availiable.
Not sure about the GE units. Sort of... not having good experience with GE ranges, so hesitates on their appliances.
Yea that design, copycat of the u shape, I think. Came out a year or two after the ushape. Not for all windows.![]()

Yeah that one is definitely not an inverter as I looked into those.Yea that design, copycat of the u shape, I think. Came out a year or two after the ushape. Not for all windows.
Install the app, if you have WiFi coverage. Their app is pretty comprehensive in functions. No, i am not afraid of them monitoring my moanings.@dogdog Thanks! I got the 12K btu one from costco. I put it in this past weekend. Its GREAT!I've never had an A/C unit this quiet. Very cool how it narrows the air outlet when on low fan to make the air squirt out father.
Just as a follow up.. I finally got around to installing the 8k Unit I bought from Home Depot in our off grid cabin and it will run off a Honda EU2000i generator, if anyone was curious.. Super quiet to operate and it cooled our 1 6x12 cabin from 91 to 75 in about 30 minutes...I have a 10k that I got on Amazon Warehouse for a little over $200 last January. Once May rolled around I had reason to turn it on for more than the initial testing when it showed up. I was so happy with it that I bought an 8k unit to replace the 3 year old GE unit in the bedroom within a couple of days. It performed well as far as cooling goes. The energy savings is nice. But the noise reduction is incredible. I hardly notice them running unless I'm in front of them and feel the cold air blowing. It's nice not having any more loud fans or loud clunks when the compressor kicks on. If you have an older window AC then it's absolutly worth it to buy one of the newer inverter units if you can.
As far as the startup goes, the inverter ACs are soft start and don't need much if any extra current. So I would think you would be fine running one on a generator.
We bought one a couple weeks ago. Wife happen to be there today, I had her check the price. It was $279, she went to the customer service counter, they gave us the difference back. Great value at $279!!!The Costco that has it for $279 is located in Topanga, Canoga Park California.
Dang I'm definitely going to check out my local Costco (MA) tomorrow. I love the one I just bought, and I'll replace another old unit at that price.
Where abouts in IL? Im in AltonFor anyone interested in Illinois, I still see them for the $279 on the floor, at least for now. Online price is higher.
Did I Mention that those units are very heavy.
Only work on up/down windows though?
Mine are all sideways.

It have a heat mode but I have never used it. Only dry mode which cools and dehumidifies. Probably not efficient at all on heat mode. At least the 12k one is like thatdo they make these w/heat as well or just AC?
Damn! I just paid $379 for one a month ago. That *****, but I am still happy with it.Amazon has the 8k BTU for $239. Best deal I have seen on one of these...
Why would you think the heat mode is inefficient? It have a heat mode but I have never used it. Only dry mode which cools and dehumidifies. Probably not efficient at all on heat mode. At least the 12k one is like that
Unless the heat mode uses a resistive strip (which I doubt unless your unit is 240v) instead of using the reefer cycle in reverse, heating should be more efficient than AC is. Do you know how it works? (probably in the manual). Do you know the model number? I kind of wanted one for a shed if they made them dual.It have a heat mode but I have never used it.
