Costco toolbox fiasco

I thought you guys may appreciate this story. I ran into Costco for some tile and decided to check out their toolboxes. They happened to have the Kirkland Signature 42" chest on sale, $200 bucks off, so $399. They even had one on a cart already, I decided to grab it. The manager was helping pull down a workbench for another customer, and since I had a cart full of tile, I asked if they could bring it upfront.
I shopped for about 10 minutes, waiting in line for another 10, and then told them at the register that my tool chest was brought up, well, was supposed to have been brought up. The supervisor had to find someone to go get the chest, and then I noticed I was overcharged for the tile. The cashier simply said, "Well, that's what it rang at, that's what it costs." I offered to walk to the back of the store, with a long line behind me, to go get the price tag, he accepted my offer. I passed the toolbox on my way to the price tag, and rang out with the supervisor apologizing about the toolbox. I make it out the door and load up tile, pull my truck to the door, and come back in for my toolbox, and somehow, the cashier forgot to ring it up, but left my overpriced tile on the receipt, along with the corrected price. I wait for 20 minutes for the supervisor to correct the mistake, and the difference was about $70, I pay, show my receipt at the door, I get loaded up and off I go. 2 days later I get a call from the manager, telling me I didn't pay for the toolbox. I go back to Costco to resolve this, and find that the supervisor charged me for the coupon only, and did not refund the double price I paid for the tile. What a bunch of wasted time and BS to buy a ******** tool chest.

2 days later I get a call from the manager, telling me I didn't pay for the toolbox.

And that's the point I would quickly do the math, and determine whether a) I overpaid or b) got more than a reasonable discount given all the trouble of buying it in the first place. If the answer to either was "Yes", I'd go back. If the answer to both is "No", I'd suggest the supervisor to eat the cost and do a better job of training both himself and the staff.

I had to have them refund everything on my original receipt, when I tried to pay for it for the THIRD time. They wanted to just try to adjust prices, but at that point, was already dealing with a bunch of "voids" and corrections. I feel they should have just eaten their mistake, since it took 3 times to charge me the correct amount.

Yes, they have tile, and usually at a very good price. Just make sure you get enough for your project, because if you are short, it's possible they won't have any left!

Try giving corporate a ring. Costco is generally pretty big on customer service in my experience. Hearing that you were given a good runaround on being over-charged for the tile and the supervisor screwed up your toolbox purchase should get their attention.

Cost Co gets pretty crazy depending on the time of day and day of the week. I try to avoid it on the weekends.

I've had different experiences with online ordering from HD and Menards.

HD was clueless, wouldn't accept my coupon at the store after the online customer service rep "called" the store to verify it was OK while I held the line. They had to cancel the order and scan it all back in again so they could then scan the coupon. OK, minor hitch, got my discount. So then they are looking around for 20 minutes for what I ordered, its some smaller stuff which they eventually found boxed up front, and then basically 2 large pallets' worth of insulation that was moved from where it originally was stocked with apparently little communication. Finally got 'r done with a lot of waiting around.

Menards has been the best experience, have used them twice. Seems like they have acres of space dedicated to housing special orders. No confusion finding it or processing paperwork or loading it, I have been in and out quickly & efficiently both times, even with several other customers doing the same thing. Two more special orders are upcoming to validate this assertion.

The incompetence of average Joe trying to do a simple laymans job is just ASTOUNDING! I'd bet money somewhere in back, unloading a truck in the cold, is a young man getting paid WAY less than he's worth, that can probably do a much better job than the meatheads you encountered. So sad.

Costco is all about customer service..........if it really bothers you.......call corporate explain what happened. They will likely try to make you happier than you are now.

I am alittle surprised the supervisor did not make this easier and better for you after his screw up ????
