In the world we live in, someone must have tried it so someone must know the results.

What if someone was to coat his garage floor with the resin used in fiberglass work?

It would pop right off after a season of temp changes. There are other issues with polyesters, but I will leave it at that for now.

I'd think that it would yellow and become brittle over time. Adhesion to the concrete and impact resistance would also be some concerns.

However...

There are a lot of places where the floors are reinforced with fiberglass.

Nestle has an factory up in Canada. The place had very old (100 yrs +) wooden floors, they could not support the machinery that was planned to be installed. The contractor laid down several layers of fiberglass coated in epoxy and the install went ahead as planned.

Well... this all depends...

First, you are using a very general term for the 'resins' used in fiberglass. It's not like there is just one or even one chemistry. Your favorite fishing rod (if you have one of the most popular ones) may contain resins from Wolverine Coatings that WOULD work on your floor (although it wouldn't look great...lol). People use Polyesters, Vinylesters, Epoxies, Boron TriFloride Resins and many others in fiberglass.

We make some polyesters that are used on concrete. BUT... in general the bondstrength of Polyesters is not suitable for concrete. In addition, there is the consideration of the health ahzards of 'free polystyrene'.

My advice... the place for experimentation is in the lab... not on your floor!

PS... We have labs!!!
