I got a nice primeweld mig 180 welder. I took almost a year to finally install the 6/2+ground wire through the house. I bought a 25ft 6/3 RV extension cord to go on it as well. I did a few very small welding jobs, all of which went really well, I really like the machine. Maybe a hour total of welding. Yesterday I was welding on some tie-downs onto my trailer. It seemed to be running really hot and fast so I kept turning it down and I got to what I thought was some good settings and good welds. That is when the welder essentially died. It wouldn't put any wire out. the wire feed reading would blink and the two LEDs under it would alternately blink. I talked to primeweld and they were quick to give me a return tag, and promised to take care of me asap.

Anyway. The rep on these machines is really good. I am worried I might have..., I don't know wired the house wrong?

used this wire. and this ext. cord. getting 240v off the plug. 120 off ea hot to grnd.

If you are measuring 220v, that's a problem as it is significantly low. Should be 240, but you said you have 120v on each leg, so guessing a typo?

The welder doesn't need anything near #6, so that's not a factor on its own.

My guess is the welder is just bad.
