Got off the split ring on the screw.

I am trying to get the swivel base off, it has large flathead screw in it, it loosens partially and then stops, not sure if that screw is supposd to unscrew all the way,

is there a tirick to getting this base off of this vise? hidden pin?

It is rather dainty and delicate, dont want to start pounding on it and crack it in half :)

My Columbian D45 wasn't too mysterious to disassemble, if I recall correctly. I think that screw on the bottom just loosens. You might have a bit of rust/crud in the top of the screw keeping it from backing out.... get some penetrating oil in there and work it back and forth. It may not have been machined very precisely at the factory.... tight threads. Force it gently. Good luck! W

Threads might be buggered. Did you already take the screw/dynamic jaw out to relieve any loads on the nut. The bottom screw not only holds the base on, but it retains the nut. If the nut is pushing against it, that may be causing it to resist unthreading.
