Hey Everyone,

I'm looking to buy some calipers. I'm assuming that all of the unreasonably cheap "Mitutoyo Digimatic" calipers that are available online are counterfeit, talking about the ones that are $40-50 for 6" size.

Curious if anyone is using these and can speak to the quality?

Also curious if the counterfeit calipers are equally common in other sizes or not? I'm looking to get 4" & 8"

Do a search. Discussed many times. Some people have had good luck with the counterfeits, others not. A coworker purchased one many years ago...it lasted about a week. Your results may vary. I always stick with you get what you pay for, and if it looks too good to be true, it probably isn't.

I suspect the knock off Mitutoyos are probably about as good/bad as the generic stainless models from many low end sources. Basically they likely would be quite serviceable for less precise work. However, as mentioned above, for the price of a fake Mitutoyo you can get a real iGaging which is a pretty good caliper and means the counterfeiters get nothing.

In hindsight I’m very happy to have bought my Mitutoyo calipers from a local tool store back in the day, as the counterfeits seem to be far more spread than I would ever had imagined.

100% with @tarbellb on this. Either buy from a trusted source or risk getting burned.

Kind regards,
Olli
