Hey guys, relatively new here. Bought this property not too long ago and just now getting myself to a spot where I can take my work space more seriously at home.

I will be posting updates and brainstorming ideas here as well as pestering many of you for more information on your amazing lairs.

Here are a few shots of where it is now. I have a lot of work to do. I just purchased a yard shed kit to get a lot of the clutter and unnecessary items out of the garage. Once I get that in and done I can really get things moving.

Short term goals are:

More organization
organization....
organization.......:uzi:
ceiling insulation
more shop lights
wall paint
epoxy floor
metal cabinets and benches (current ones will be moved out to the shed)
Paint lift, build adapter ramps for low cars
Mill
Lathe
Ceiling mounted compressor and lines
Welding / fabrication station
Beam mounted rolling shop crane

Looking pretty hard at epoxy floor options today. Also doing the basement in the house. Rustoleum's polycuramine seems pretty enticing. Seems easy enough and I would probably use it on workbenches as well.

Welcome to the forum! Looks like a great space to start building to your needs...

Lots of great folks here to get advice from, but make your space your own.

Chamberlin MyQ and some other goodies on the way. Going to start converting to a "smart garage". I have a spare Alexa, tablet, and surround sound to install after I get the ceiling up and run some more electric.

Got a 8x12 garden shed for a good deal off of costco to get all of the clutter out of the garage.

Haven't had much time to do any serious work to the garage lately. Gathered supplies to upgrade my electrical system, installed the MyQ garage door controller which is awesome btw. ~$75 off of amazon for remote door control from any location via mobile of wifi networks as well as real time door status with history. Installed a router, a few wifi security cameras, and got a touch screen pc wall mount started.

Had a friends Chebby SS in for long tubes and X pipe the other day. Really made me realize how much of a pain in the *** it was to get the c5 up on the lift. I'm going to have to make a set of wooden ramps, to get the car up on the built in lift ramps, just to get the car started on the lift lol. Before I had been using a series of boards along with some hope and prayers. It took me about 20 minutes to get the c5 up vs the 2 for the taller SS. 1.5" of ground clearance vs the 4-6 of the porky SS.

I'd like to make some guide bars for the edge of the lift as well. When solo with a low and visibility limited car I'm having to stop and check every 6" or so for orientation and ground clearance. I'm thinking either bumpers on the outside edge of the lift or install install a few cameras under the lift + tv monitor for positioning. I'd like to keep it simple though. The less wires the better.

Picked up some wood to make a table top for the lift while not in use. Will do duty as a car lift, bike lift/Storage, attic storage elevator, and variable height work bench.

Work is busy so nothing really happens except sleep when I am home. Managed to get the shed up last week after taking a few days off. Things should really get moving here shortly.

For now I'm scrambling to get the track bike and trailer prepped for this weekend.

Still toying with the idea of retaining the back wall amd adding an 8x24 shop off the back side of the garage. Maybe even a tall bay towards the back of the lot. The tall bay most likely wont happen but the workshop is definitely in the cards.

I am unsure about it being on a seperate slab. While sharing a wall and roof. I may build it as a seperate building with 0 gap and just cut a doorway between the walls.

See photos below.

Here are some current shots. Will be moving stuff out start cleaning / painting next month. Then comes sealing up the place and adding a heater/ac unit and lift restoration.

Any tips for insulating this style of roof? Not sure if I am going to go with foam panels and paint on the rafters or up on the joists. At least if I go up to the rafters I can retain the loft.

If you keep the tree, put a patio around it.
With a table and chairs it will be a nice place to take a break.

My thoughts exactly!

If the addition doesn't fall through I will put down a concrete drive up the side of the garage, a carport between the tree and garage with a balcony on top and a patio on the north side of the tree.

As nice as that woud be I would rather have the shop space.

Great start. How high does that lift go? Vette only has 1.5" ground clearance? Why not raise it up an inch so you can drive it
Lift goes up to 7ft. Enough to put the vette through the roof lol

I need to do some tweaking to the suspension but I won't go much higher than it is now. It holds the road pretty damn hard. I'll have to play with it and see how much air I can get away with under the car. Its a dual duty track and street toy so it doesn't have to be practical. Its easy enough to make some ramps, I just need to find the time and knock some more important stuff out first before I can get to it.

Threw together a sketchup for my ramps on the lift. These will fit over the existing ramps (1/4 clearance on each side) and transfer weight to the lower ramp and floor. They will be hinged approximately halfway through the angled floor resting portion in order to fold to a shorter length for storage between the two lift points. Both will fit side by side between lift points to form an even and stable table surface.

The spear head is the uppermost portion and will be resting on the lower ramp. This design should prevent from pushing the ramps and promote downforce one the under ramp. This edge will be rounded.

I will also be installing outside edge tire guides for ramp entry and locks if necessary.

Ended up working this weekend and didn't have much time to do anything. Managed to squeeze in a few minutes here and there to do some cleanup / organization and got a few mats heavy duty laid down I got from a friend.

Got some stitches in my elbow so the hard work is on delay for now.

Looks we had our last hot day this past week. Time to get working in the roof and get a heater in here.

Contemplating on either routing natural gas or going with an all electric heat/ac combo.

Nice saw! My table saw is my favorite tool in my garage. I see a lot of potential in that garage. Keep the updates coming and keep asking advise.
