So this week the new MAC dealer comes by we havent had a dealer in 4 years so my box is full of Snap-On I bought a few things and have really liked them over the week.. my question now is what does everyone think about the MAC antivide hammers the dealer left a flyer that has a deal in it for 5 of the hammers im thinking of replacing my hickory handled hammers with these what is everyones opinion of them? the kit comes with hammers ranging from 8-32 ounces im also looking at the hamer and bearing race combo in the same flyer any opinions would be greatly appreciated

if the hammers are lifetime warranty and the mac tools logo is stamped into it it would be a hell of a deal.
2 snap-on hammers alone will cost as much as that whole set

Just checked Mac's website and the only Antivibe hammers I found were some larger ones that looked like fancy Estwings for want of a better description. If the hammers you are looking at fit this description I'd be willing to pay a bit more for Mac branded ones just to get better, and easier, warranty service in the unlikely event it's needed. I've never damaged any of my Estwings but I have seen folks bend the handles using them as prybars.

That is what all the hammers in the set will look like.. im not familiar with what the Estwings look like but i love their claw hammers have several and for the price I think I will pick these up ill make sure the warranty is for life though... the set of hammers i have now are supposed to be lifers what is everyones opinion about the bearing race punches in the same flyer? Country of Origin doesnt really matter to me i understand outsourcing and why it happens i buy american tools but im not afraid to say i have some imported tools in my box too whatever gets the job done for the cheapest price and best warranty.. my boss hasnt ever gone through my box to make sure everything is made in the USA

Chris,

That Mac hammer you linked isn't all that much higher than the equivalent Estwing. I'm guessing you'd pay somewhere between $20 and $25 for a 12oz Estwing depending on where you bought it.

The Estwing ball pein and engineers hammers are basically the same as their claw hammers with the blue handles except for different heads.

I happen to like mac tools, yes they have some stuff that is not USA made but they do have stuff that is; such as their wrenchs, they are made here in Dallas tx. But as for they anti vibe hammer I love it you can feel the quality of the hammer is good I own the 32oz. Use it almost everyday. The dealer I have is an awesome guy and warranties evrything.

I have the Stanley version 24 oz antivibe ball pein hammer and love it. I beat the hell out of stuff with it daiy. It's not US made because those three little letters USA are no where to be found on it.:( However, it's still a good hammer. I got mine on sale from MSC. It has a flat spot on top of its head so, it will stand up when you put it down.
I know everybody loves a warranty but, when was the last time you broke a hammer and warrantied it?

They may not have any USA production for much longer. They announced the closure of their Sabina factory a couple weeks ago.

+1. Stanley may be an evil tool empire, but they do know how to make a bomb proof excellent hammer. Probably the only new tool I'd buy from them.

FWIW i bought a couple s-o dead blow ball peen hammers a few weeks ago and i love them. even though they are more money they are worth every penny. i have a 24oz and a 40oz and at least use the 24oz everyday. they hit very hard and have no bounce back or vibration at all.
