I guess this thread could probably be about using any coupon at any tool or mechanical related retailer, but will probably wind up centered around HD.
I thought about putting this in the "Using the Harbor Freight 20% coupon at Home Depot" but that thread is pretty well clogged up a derailed.
My point here is that I'm signed up w the Ace and True Value rewards programs. I don't shop much at either place but they periodically and regularly send out $5 or $10 coupons regardless of purchase history as a "please come back" gesture. My HD will accept these.
To be sure the dollar amounts are not big but every bit helps. In the case of Ace it's usually $5 off with no minimum purchase. So an $8 screwdriver at HD (only because HD is far more likely to have something I want) is $3. Right now I have a True Value $10 off $50. Well if you're looking to spend right around $50 that's 20% off by my math.
O'Rewards regularly emails me $5 or $10 coupons (O'Reilly). Yes, there are fewer items in HD where this might work - and I haven't tried it YET - but I bet my HD would match it on, say, batteries. When my HD first brought in automotive batteries they posted big signs showing their prices and warranty compared to those of my local Autozone, clearly gunning for local competitors.
If anyone has other examples or suggestions post up. Doesn't have to be HD but there's no point in discussing the HF 20% and probably not much point in mentioning Northern codes at HD as that's pretty well documented.
