Covered Porch

I am considering adding a 10'Wx8'D covered porch to the front of my house. I have a single story ranch with a gable roof. The plan is to have a gable roof on the porch as well but run perpendicular to the house roof.

Anyone here have any experience doing this? Any pointers would be helpful. Attached is a very simple drawing of what I am looking to do.

Are your shingles in good shape ? If not, now may be the time to go ahead and reshingle the roof also.

One suggestion I have is to visit a big box store and pick up a copy of a Time/Life book or something similar. It's one thing for guys to tell you how to do it, but a book that actually has some pictures you can reference will be worth it's price tag.

This is very basic project for guys that do this day in and day out, but honestly to try and explain how to do everything on here just is'nt feasible at all, not to mention every job has it's own problems when tieing in to make it look like it's always been there.

As mentioned, RESEARCH and spend the money to buy some literature that you can see step by step pictures of how to get it done, or at least give you an idea.
