Sorry I haven't up-dated for a while... Been doing the wiring and a lot of little things.

I'll try and post an update later today when I get back from working on the shop.

The building package was 24K. It's a canned package with the addition of the 28 X 21' shed room. I have an idea of how much ($) I have spent so far, but it's like building a car. It gets to the point where I "Don't Want To Know!!!"

Nice place! I think I'm sold on the steel beam, clear span buildings.

Spent sometime working fires up around the Republic area and really fell in love with the surroundings. Looks like you've got a great site. Thanks for sharing!

Well, here's a couple to pictures from a few months ago. The building is weathered in and secure. The front door is temporary, I want to do a special one for that's the entrance for the office / recroom. Haven't figured that one out yet...

Had to move the '31 out of my home shop to make some room to get a few small projects done. These pics show a little perspective of the size of the shop area. I'm STOKED!!:bounce:

Got another 40 yards of recycled crushed concrete spread out before the wet season gets started. A little too fine for me, but it'll work for a good base when we finish the drive.

Framed in an entrance room, off the side door, between the office / recroom and shop. This is to keep the dirt and noise between the two down and it will also able a person to enter the shop with out being able to get into the office area.

Does the '31 run? If so, I'd be real tempted to do a big donut right in the middle of the floor, while the place is still empty.:bounce:

Sorry, no it doesn't run. That would sure leave a great conversation piece on the floor for the future. Maybe I can find a friend to do one for me, good idea C F.

The last time I tried something like that I wiped out my solvent tank. Forgot I hadn't hooked up the brakes yet!!!

Last week-end I had help from a friends son-in-law who's a journeyman electriction. We finished up the overhead lights, the highest at 19' and I don't do good that far up in the air.

Anyway Sunday afternoon as we were just hanging the last light and I had installed a temp. plug to power them and I heard what sounded like transformers blowing up and the power went out. (Damn)

We had some wet snow and high winds thru the day, so I just loaded up the man-lift and returned it to the rental yard.

Hey Joe,
We got lucky, we're in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountians and with the direction the last storm came from it sort of went around us. We did get some winds...

What's with IdahoJoe, located in Seattle, and building a shop in Belfair??? I'm Lost...

***************************************************************
captkeys,
It's hard to see in the pictures but there are gutters and down spouts on the building.

I changed my profile to say 'near Seattle' now. For anybody outside this region, that makes more sense. I actually live in Bear Creek but that doesn't mean much to people more than a few miles away either. I'm from Idaho and badly want to go back. I probably talk about it too much. I travelled around quite a bit in the Navy and picked that name up somewhere along the way...

ASTONDB9,

We were over in your area last September on our way to Chelan for a family reunion. Took off a day early so we could take our time and go the long way there.

Anyway we spent the first night in Winthrop and the next morning took a short drive around town and found these.

IMG_1038.jpg

Then shortly after leaving we were in Twisp and took a couple shots of this...

Here's a few pics after installing the lights, three per bay. I didn't do the last bay because there's going to be a loft at the 8' level. (14 X 40')

It's brighter inside than what the picture shows???
IMG_1315-1.jpg

Don't tell the inspector, but I couldn't wait to see what the overhead lights would look like.
IMG_1316-1.jpg

200 Amp service.
IMG_1318-1.jpg

Each bay section has a 240V 30 amp plug in, a double duplex, and a switched task light plug in. (120V)
IMG_1321.jpg

Here's a brighter shot.
IMG_1319-1.jpg

There are also a couple 240V 50 amp plugs in what I call bay#4 by the large overhead door.

This build looks killer. Nice C-dan at least from what I can tell. Blind in one eye and can barely see through the other. I scrolled back through the thread and saw a closer pic of the car, I think I just fell in lust. Killer c-dan.

Wow!!!

Hard to believe it's been 4 months since I posted. It seems a lot of other things keep getting in the way. I've got a lot of little things done in the shop and will try to post up some pictures tonight.

Well I got the electrical installed and the inspector wants the walls covered 8 Feet up because I ran all my wires on the top side of the Girts. I can see why, they're afraid you would use the Girts as shelves and may set something heavy and/or sharp on the wire and cause a problem.

20080322_0224.jpg

So I installed some R-21 in the walls and put up 30 sheets of wall board.

20080322_0213.jpg

20080322_0210.jpg

Most of the sections between the columns have a double circuit 20 Amp 120 Volt, a 30 Amp 240 Volt, and a switched 15 Amp 120 Volt (for task lighting) receptacles. There are also two 50 Amp 240 Volt circuits, one on the back wall and another close to the large overhead door that can stretch out side if need be.

20080322_0219.jpg

Today I got the first coat of mud and tape on all the walls, went faster than I thought it would.

On Thursday and Friday they're going to insulate the ceiling (R-30)
and cover it with a heavy duty white material so it'll be an insulated and covered ceiling.

I'll try and get some updated pictures up this week-end.

Sorry it's been awhile... Here's some pics after the ceiling insulation was installed. The white material covering the bats has a 1 hr. burn time plus the reflection for the lights is great.

20080421_0260.jpg

Plus we got the walls up to 8 ft all mudded and taped.

Next a coat of paint.

this is by far the coolest shop I have seen in my life, im only 26 but i hope to have a shop like this one day. If you dont mind whats the ballpark cost to do a shop like this not including your tools and all that, just the structure, if you do mind I completely understand and do not mind if you tell me so. anyways, sweet build.

Nice shop. I like the way the over head doors follow the roof line when opened.
Are you planning on more lighting? It looks little dark from the pictures.

Thanks for the nice words,

When the county issued the permit they est. the building cost at about 68K and the were darn close.

The lighting is actually brighter than the pictures show, and yes I'll be adding more in the form of task lighting around the perimeter of the shop.

Here's some pics. from about 1 month ago.

I got the final county inspection Monday this week. Now I'll finish the interior a little at a time while at last being able to work on the fun projects.

Wow! John, where did you find the two chevys? I do have some extra parts for the 31 that may be left over from the build.

Thanks e-tek, now that the building has had its final the inspector will only be stopping by for social visits and we'll get a lot more done in the shop area and that will be to code but not on the permit.

I started the 31 at my home garage and just ran out of room, then my wife got the Rambler, and for some reason it got moved to the front of the line to get on the road... LOL! So here it's 18 months later the shop is usable and she's start to crack the whip.

A few pics...

Hi Don. I actually kind of know you from another forum we used to belong to that went stale. I still have some of your chassis build pictures you posted around here somewhere? It was the site where the guy (Rob) stuck stuck at home after a bad accident and he was rebuilding the 31 Chevy he named after his mom I think git was? "Evelyn". He was in New Hampshire. I found his thread on the HAMB No activity since Dec of '03 though. too bad.

Anyway....

The 2 Chevy's I have I actually found both of them on Craigslist over the last few years. The '31 is pretty rusty. The '29 is PRISTINE, NO RUST. I just picked it up from a guy that bought it 9 years when he lived in Arizona. I am so stoked to be able to start working on it versus that rotten '31! "Virgin Metal" YES!
