Had a few drinks last night and happened upon eBay where I found a 1/4 x 5/16 Stahlwille Saltus wrench.

The Flexi 29 series to be specific. Freaking sweet!! Compact wrench for electrical & maintenance stuff that I’ve never seen before, for $20?? Clicked “buy it now” and went to bed deliberating if I’d take it to work and risk losing it, or if it would be a garage queen type tool to impress any visitors….

Woke up this morning and checked my purchase again when I saw it (click to reveal)……….

EIGHT POINT SOCKET

****. $35 for a gizmo I can’t even use. Contacted the seller and he was sympathetic but he already shipped it so it couldn’t be refunded. Oh well … I’ll probably tape it to my monitor as a reminder to carefully read the listing before buying a tool.

Anyone else have any dumb tools they bought when under the influence?

Was your vision as blurry as the above photos? Given 1/4 x 5/16 I'm guessing its an eight point job. Quality tool though you might peddle it to an HVAC guy

A now departed friend that ran a small shop used to like beer, a lot. Often by the end of the day he was pretty well lit.
There was a particularly predatory Snap-On salesman that fully exploited this making it a point come late in the day and hang around only if my buddy was drunk(and later on if I wasn't there as I'd now chased him off under these circumstances), sometimes he'd nurse a single beer whilst my friend perused the sale flyer, wandered the truck or listened to a pitch.
God bless my friend, he knew his weakness and never fought to return any of his silly purchases instead most went, still wrapped into his "drawer of shame" where all these things lived.
I now have (and use) one these drunken buys, a screwdriver set that was in the package so long they took on the color of the tray.
I've made plenty of questionable purchases without alcohol

I've bought several things over the years off eBay that I didn't review closely enough. Tuition to the College of Hard Knocks is what I call it.

HVAC guy here. Square ends would be useful for blower wheel hub bolts and water spigot valves missing the handle. If it's hex then it would be nice for panel screws in weird places.
If I wasn't overflowing with that size combo of wrenches I'd take it from you!

As soon as I saw that I thought it would be a double square.

Main use is for adjusting some drum brakes (Girling, among others). The adjuster is sometimes recessed and those tools are perfect.

Stahlwille offered a 1/4 x 5/16 and a 7mm x 1/4. I think both are discontinued and were being heavily discounted ($3) a little while back.

I snapped one up and was very glad to.

8pts are good for tightening beam clamps and other things with square headed set screws.
