CP714 Vs IR132

Hello,

Does anyone have any experience or opinions on which would be a better choice of gun? Do they both have good trigger control? Lots of talk about cp714 having good trigger control.

I thought they would be a fair comparison because they are both 401 shank, the IR132 is more powerful on paper but more expensive.

Both are cheaper than snap on 3050.

Cp714 has a better trigger than my 3050. I eventually got rid of the 714 due to issues with the piston sticking in the bore, trigger issues, etc. This was after several years of daily use. I still consider the 3050 usable to unscrew fasteners and do rescission work. The 3050 is more powerful than the CP714 for sure. But the 3050 is stupid loud, and makes a particularly unpleasant noise.

FWIW IR132 looks to be the same price as a 3050. 3050 also includes a quick chuck, I know the CP714 does not.

I have no experience with the IR132. Absolutely love the few Cp714 that I have.
Thanks for replying, what do you use the cp714 for?

Excuse my ignorance but this will be my first air hammer and haven't worked with any mechanics who do use them.

I'm in Australia this is the pricing situation because I have amazon account and access to everything in USA Amazon with free shipping.
In Australian dollars..

ASTRO Thor: $400
CP717: $800
CP714: $550
IR132: $900
Snap on 3050: $1000

You are correct IR132 probably the same as snap on after buying quick release chuck. I refuse to buy snap on for different reasons unless I absolutely can't get the tool without them or they are cheaper.

I think the IR132 may be the most poweful 401 under snap on but snap on is 2500 bpm and IR132 1750 and longer barrel.

I removed a 36 year old pitman arm that wouldn't pull off by beating the side of it with Thor until it walked off.

So there's that.

I had the cp714 for 5-7 years, now I have a 3050 snap on.

I'll remove frozen brake slide pins, cut/separate exhaust pipes, rattle tie rod jam nuts and remove bolts stuck in bushings. Cutting through stuff, unscrewing rotten exhaust hardware, pushing cv shafts out of knuckles, rattling on rotors/drums.

Although I usually use my larger bore .498 hammers for this, it is my primary wheel hub and ball joint removal tool as well.

I have thor, and the long barrel thor. Issue is there's no trigger control. Great tools for sure, but you can't be delicate.

Have you seen torque test channel recently did a thor vs cp717 and cp717 is more powerful than thor but has trigger control like. Cp714, I started thinking the cp717 would get the best of both worlds/all-rounder.

For those prices, I'd look at a 714, and a thor. Thor is absolutely more powerful than a snap on.
Yeah that's a good idea, or just cp717 because it's more powerful than thor but has trigger control? It probably is the most economical due to only buying one set of attachments.

People used to say the downside of.498 is lack of attachments but astro are making different ones now.

I have the cp717 and only have used it a few times, due to only having a chisel bit for it. It’s a monster for sure.

That's the route I went (working on construction/heavy equipment). Had a PH3050, then bought the Astro 4980, and sold both after I picked up a used CP717 on eBay. With the Astro it's just on/off full power, so need another air hammer for 'delicate' work. The 717 will do it all.

Anytime our PH3050s and sledgehammers couldn't move something, the boss would break out his battered old 717 and buzz it right out.

Ajax and Astro are both offering a good selection of 498 bits now.
