CPL Warm Up Time

I have no expericence with compact fluorescent lamps and need a bit of help. I want a light outside next to my walkdoor at my shop, and I was thinking of using a CPL with a motion detector. But from what I have read, the warm up time for the CPL can be up to 3 minutes. Is this not a practical application for a CPL..?

A good quality brand, GE, Sylvania, or Philips will give you good service and should come on to full brightness in seconds. I have GE compact fluorescents all through my house and above the back door and in my unheated garage. Only in the very cold do they take a while to come up to full brightness. In southern Texas they should work well for you. $.02.

Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL's) work well in that application. Some of the older CFL's were slow to come to full brightness but the new name brand lights like GE work well. The cheapo junk CFL's like n:vision sold by Home Depot are hit and miss and many fail quickly.
