Ratchet in pic is obsolete, jah? I've always liked this one and his matching brothers. Whaddya tool guys call this style? Less aggravating to use then his descendents. I would like to acquire more of the first style.

Round Head Fine Tooth. Not in production anymore by craftsman, but you can still find rebuild kits for them on Ebay and Cripe has the same ratchet under the Allen or KD brand. That style was made by Danaher for Napa, Easco, and others.

I've been shopping for these for awhile. Every week one or two go up on eBay. Average price (w/o shipping) seems to be about $25.00. For 3/8 drive, you're looking for a 43788 or 43781. According to Lauver*

"The 43788 ran from 1970 - 1979
The 43781 ran from 1980 - 2010
Both models are the same exact basic design, but I find the older ones feel a little smoother to me. However, if you could find a 43781 with a V-series code, that would still be a safe bet (roughly 1980 - 1989)."

It's been my only ratchet for 35 years (DIYer). I don't know that any of the other ones listed above have all of these features: quick release, fine tooth, thumbwheel.

Easco made 'em first, like much of the Craftsman RP tools, then got bought out by Danaher.
