Craftsman 1/2 HP Motor 115.5829, J30 date code

I am a fledgling poster, so be advised.

What started out as a cord replacement, blossomed into a motor restoration, mostly because I wanted to. The motor was running fine on a 103.23130 Craftsman 100 DP, although I had only used it a couple of times. No hot smell, just a little bearing noise, started and stopped fine.

My real question is the stator. It is black, but it does not smell burnt. And again, it seemed to be running fine. I am just looking for some advise from those of you with more experience than me. Am I wasting my time? Should I keep going?

I kinda like that the motor is from 1930. That is what J30 means, right? I appreciate any help you can offer.

A lot of the older stators had black insulation or it was some other color that turned black with time.

If it starts and runs smoothly and doesn't draw excessive current, it's ok.
