Went to two stores.. both were at full price. Another store had them at 48 something. Found the standards set at 31 bux at the last. Not quite as good as the metric at 28 but I picked some up as gifts.

So that ratchet is US made since it comes in the kit?

That seems like such a good deal, but 12pts just give me the willies.

My local store had the standard set for $34.95 and the metric size for $29.95.

The older ratchets are USA, the new ones are China. So pick the oldest looking box and hope for the best. The one in the picture above looks like a USA set.

Go back to sears they will straighten you out.

About 5 years ago I bought a mechanics set and it came with 2 11mm and no 10mm.

What is funny is the unused 11mm has slight rusting on the interior and the well used one looks almost new.

I will be passing by a sears in a few hours and am going to see if they have any cheap metrics.

Damn I would've jumped all over that deal! I saw someone selling one at the flea market a while back for $45... I offered $30 but he wouldnt budge. I left it with him :)

My Sears hardware store never has any deals like that.
Maybe because they are independent?

I just picked up this deal at the Oakbrook store in Chicagoland. I got 2 SAE sets for 34.15 a piece. They were the only two left on the shelf. Both were 100% USA made. One set came with 2 3/4 sockets and was missing a 1 inch. That problem was quickly rectified. The metric set was not on sale. I even had an associate scan the package in case someone forgot to put the tag up.

Thanks for the post.

Yeah i'm not sure why the prices are different from store to store... still can't find the metric set on sale anywhere.

Found the 1/2" metric set on sale at 30.52 or something like that. Seems every store has a different price.

Went by the Sears up the road from Graceland and they had the metric sets at $28, SAE $44. Set I bought was all US made, but had two 19mm sockets, so I guess I'll be making another trip.

I think these sets are discounted because of a poor production run (everyone seems to be getting 2 of one size in their box...)

Hey guys this is live again. My Sears which never had the discount the first time around now has it, $33.99 for either metric or SAE 17pc set.
