I just picked up this Craftsman 1 hp bench grinder a few days ago for $100. It looks like it was barely used. The bearings are smooth and quiet, and it takes quite a while to spin down after the power is shut off. It is set up for single phase 120V but can be set up to run on 220V as well. It came with an extra set of 8" grinding wheels too. I've heard that these are rare as hens teeth. Is that actually the case in your experience?

He did. His original asking price was $150. After some back and forth we settled on $100 which I thought was reasonable for the condition that it’s in. Having that extra set of brand new wheels at that price made it too good to pass on. I’m glad that it has Made in USA on the grinder too. If it was made overseas I probably would not have purchased it.

Shootingblanks, I’m hoping mine holds up well. IMCA38, you got an excellent deal!

In that condition for a reasonable price? Yeah, I'd say that's a fair assessment.

I don't advise using the original wheels, and I'd do a ring test on the replacements that came with it before putting them on.

Actually, I would scrap the included wheels altogether and pick up some Norton white wheels in 60 and 150 grit. They don't put nearly as much heat into the part as regular gray wheels, which helps preserve any existing heat treatment.
