Craftsman 10 drawer box , a couple surprises found inside

This is the chest I picked up several weeks ago. Not looking to restore it, just use it. I even have the part # 6511 (you'll see how I found that out).

Turned out to be a bigger mess than I realized. Real dirty and tons of little junk to clean out. I am a glutton for punishment when it comes to dirty old boxes. Definitely was well loved and used. So after a long clean out and quick half wipe down, I just wanted to show what was inside it really.

No cool tools to show,just a little surprise. All the drawers were lined with old cardboard, and three drawers had pieces of the original box it came in. Kind of neat I thought. Good idea, I'm sure others did this back then too.

The little tray in the top drawer, and a bunch of old school MAC Tools receipts that were hidden under one drawer liner.

A few times I've found old hand written Mac receipts in an old box.

That is a real nice Craftsman box, and the drawer liners are very cool. Those receipts are perfect! Prices from yesteryear, "Joe's Auto" and 1% sales tax.

Wow, what a cool bonus. I love finding unexpected treasures when buying old tool boxes. Look at the phone number on those receipts, two letters and four numbers likely place them in the late 40s early 50s.

First thing I did when I bought my box (only 5 years ago) was cut up the box for drawer liners! Hopefully they'll still be there 60 years from now!

Old school thrifty. I dig it. Similar to stuff you'll find in old houses that people have lived through the depression and world wars in: little bundles of everything wrapped in string-tin can lids, cardboard, tin foil, etc. Thanks for sharing.

I got it real cheap ( $22- if you take a look at the 2016 garage sale thread post #6811). Tool boxes on the used market are whatever someone will pay really, especially when they are a mess and super heavy. I should have showed the before inside pics. It was pretty gross, worse than I knew, loaded with greasy hardware, some seeds from a critter, and even shattered glass from something. Thank goodness the drawers were lined, made it a bit easier.

Look on the inside of the drawer behind the Craftsman badge, it could very well have the year stamped there.

There's later 10-D top chest for sale on CL very close to me, but it's missing the lid and the guy is asking an insane amount for it ($125). While it's still usable, it's an eye-sore.

3bay - was that box on CL? Somebody in Buffalo was selling a Craftsman box a few weeks ago, but it was already sold when I called.

Sales tax increased to 2% in NY in 1965.

I'm in Rochester - I've made a few trips to Buffalo to pick up CL goodies....you guys get all the good stuff out there. There have been some big vises sold out that way recently. I haven't been quick enough

There hasn't been a decent vise on CL in Rochester in a while. I've seen a few go at auction, but it's like there's been a market surge the last few years and vise prices are way up. x2 with anvils.

Here is mine, found at the last day of an estate sale for a fiver:

Rode hard and putaway wet, it sits on a '30's crafty roller, one of the ones with out slides. Looking for a heritage roller for it.
