I found a vintage 10 drawer Craftsman tool box in the garbage, but it's missing the lock. Would I be able to purchase an aftermarket lock for this vintage 10 drawer Craftsman toolbox? I will attach a photo I found on the internet of the exact one.

Thanks,
Mark

Absolutely you can find a lock for it. Can we see the real pic of it before we start throwing around "you *****" ?

Sorry I didn't post them on the original thread, but it's outside in my truck. Here are a few angles of the missing lock.

Would you happen to know where to find a part number or could I just bring in the photos and they can match it up?

Thanks,
Mark

Probably wouldn't hurt to measure the lock aperture, but probably need a p/n for the box before you can get a p/n for the lock that goes with it.

That is an AWESOME garbage pick!

I got my lower from my secondary stack out of my neighbors trash. Your find is way nicer, though. It is amazing what people will throw away...

The ID sticker will be on the inside of the upper right-hand drawer, either on the right side or the bottom. Waterloo manufactured boxes of that vintage all have similar lock cylinders, although the cams may differ. If the sticker is missing, you can PM me for a model number with a similar lock. As the resident experts have posted, your best source for price and service is Waterloo Industries parts department.

The only numbers I could find inside the toolbox was a 12-76. Would those numbers be any help to identify this toolbox and find the correct lock mechanism?

I also saw this sticker when I first opened the top and thought it would be perfect for this forum.

12-76 is the manufactured date.
I don't think the model number is stamped on the box. It was probably on a paper label that was removed. If there are liners in the drawers, you could lift them up to see if the PO'er stuck the label underneath.

I see that you have the retaining clip for the lock. I wonder if the lock itself was put in one of the drawers. With moving and flipping the lock might have migrated under the drawers. Pull the bottom drawer and see what's hiding in the bottom of the box. That's where I store extra parts I don't want to lose.

I received your PM, but my PM reply seems to have vanished into the Twilight Zone.

This model number should work: 706.652571. You can download or bookmark a free parts diagram for this model at Sears Parts Direct and locate a part number for the lockset.

Then phone Waterloo parts department 800.833.4405 during business hours. Give the CSR that box model number and/or the lockset part number along with a description of your box and the CSR will help you connect the dots and suggest a replacement lockset part number. Locksets with 2 keys usually cost about $15.

Order any other repair parts needed at the same time since Waterloo charges flat rate shipping.
