I was saving up for a new rigid table saw but I came across this gem at an estate sale(where I usually buy my tools) and they wanted $250 for it but I offered $75 and it's now mine. It's from '59 or so. I really like the engine turned panel and the shape of it all. It's a 10" with tilting arbor. Plus it's a craftsman tool made when craftsman actually made good stuff. This will last me a lifetime. Now to get a blade guard, splitter, and upgrade the fence and I'll be good to go.

And this cool stuff that I found in the garage with the saw

I've got two of those saws. I've set them up as a table with an extension between the two. One is for normal operations and the other is setup with my dado blade. They are both great saws, but I have yet to find a blade guard for either.

Good job on getting it and the price is good too!

It's '59-60. It's all of the manuals for the saw and the motor plus for the blades that the owner bought for it

I had one of those for years in my shop good saw, gave it to my brother in law when I got a 1959 delta unisaw at an estate auction.

Those are great saws. I've flipped about a half-a-dozen over the past few years. All that for 75$ deserves a U-**** award :rocker:

I paid 29 bucks for mine. I think the existing fence is OK. Just make sure it is parallel to the table and the blade.

There are retrofit guards, splitters and riving knives available. Lots of discussion on Lumberjocks.

I'll check it out. I'd feel more comfortable with a riving knife or splitter. This is my first table saw, I've used other woodworking tools all my life without a problem but the table saw was one I never used.

I'll post up my clean up and restoration of the saw. It doesn't need much honestly, just a fresh coat of paint and maybe shine up the bright work

Did you get the extension wings or the miter gauge?

It has one webbed wing and an extendable wing. Miter guage as well. Saw didn't come with a blade guard/splitter or the mounting hardware for one. In the coming weeks I should be able to find the mounting brackets on ebay. Just need to save up being a teacher *****.

I find the fence to be okay on mine. Miles better than the plastic jobsite saws, but obviously not top of the line

As a hobbyist it will probably do just fine. I'm not doing any serious work like re sawing old growth oak or anything but if I ever do need to upgrade I'll keep this saw.

My grandpa passed away 6 years ago and I had driven up to CT to visit family and while there help clean out the house and he had a basement wood shop and I wish I could have brought all of the stuff home with me. It was all 70's era craftsman stuff which is better than the stuff they offer today(the aesthetics leave much to be desired). But he had a craftsman saw much like this one and it would have been nice to have that to pass on to any kids I ever have.

I honestly wouldn't waste your time or money on the factory guard or splitter. Make a nice 0 clearance insert, one with a riving knife and one without, call it a day. The factory fence isn't bad and locks tightly, but you just need to check it parallel to the blade/miter slots before cut. The factory miter gauge is pretty nice IMHO.

I actually thought it was early 50's. My father had the same saw and he got it before I was born---1954. But maybe they made it for a number of years.

Great saw. I took it to college with me and started my career as a speaker builder. Best thing I ever did was add a Biesemeyer fence to it. The stock fence had to be checked for square each time you set it, and then clamped at the back to keep it from shifting. I'd still have it today if I didn't happen across a Unisaw at a good price. They made solid machines 50 years ago!

Yep, no riving knife but the mounts for a splitter. My plan is to use a homemade metal splitter for through cuts and remove it for blind ones

I'll buy a microjig splitter kit. I already have their grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrripper push block thing. My birthday is next week and I'm hoping for some lowes gift cards so I can build a workstation for it and get supplies to clean it up. Anyone know how to clean up engine turned metal?

Good idea.

As for the engine turning, anything abrasive will ruin it. I used shop towels and simple green and scrubbed for a while to remove some oxidation and grime. IMG_6362_2_zpsac22bb4c.jpg

That's beautiful. What color paint did you use? I'll use a microfiber cloth and simple green!

Never mind, I found your thread on the saw. I too will confess I got it because of red leaders stuff. Also you're a teenager, man I wish my students were more like you.

Wow, I got one like that free when the lady next door cleaned out the basement. Its bolted to a cobbled up 2x4 stand the guy made. I just tucked it away and haven't even thought about it. Maybe next weekend Ill pull it out and get some pictures. I remember It didnt run when i plugged it in, but it has a light switch mounted on the frame, a bit shady...

Thanks! I found valspar cobalt cannon to be a pretty much exact match. I sprayed some on the base where there was fresh paint and you couldn't tell the difference.

Thanks, I'll check out that paint. I've seen some saws with a gold color and I sort of wish mine was gold or even a pistachio green.
