Craftsman 103.23070 Lathe Help

[Model A Fan]

I'm looking at the model 103.23070 lathe by Craftsman. This one was not manufactured by King Seeley, but is supposedly from the early to mid 50's?

It seems to be missing a few parts and I'd like to know what its missing. Also, its $30 and includes a 1/3hp Dunlap brand motor. For $30, am I risking much or getting an OK deal provided the motor works? The bearings felt like they needed to be replaced too. From a cursory glance over other pics, it appears that it is missing the turn crank on the head stock, the pointy thing sticking out of the tail stock and that might be it ? The aluminum turning looks to be in decent enough shape.

Light duty wood lathe, is that what you want? Never get hurt at $30., part it out for more than that.

It IS a King Seeley... 103 starting the model number.
The motor is sleeve bearing, not ball bearing.
I believe your reference to "missing the turn crank on the head stock" is just a cover.


If you need a project, $30 is just OK.
If you need a lathe, I dunno.

If that is a model 100 Lathe, it is ball bearing equipped. Check page 16 here:

Not a bad deal if you need a wood lathe and plan to use it. I have bought and sold a few, each time I sell one I regret it but each time I buy one I do the same...

I bought it for under $30 including tax! I'm bringing it home tomorrow in my truck instead of on my leather seats in my car.
