I bought this bandsaw about 5 years ago off Craigslist, when I lived in Florida. It worked but it was cosmetically rough and not that good at cutting either. It sat in my hangar and got used very occasionally. When it came time to move to Georgia, I dismantled it and crated it up for the move. We moved to a rental house while we built our new home so I left it in its crate, for about 2 years.
In Georgia, I renewed my interest in woodworking as I now had the space. With the need of a bandsaw, I reassembled the old bandsaw, almost. I couldn’t get past the fact that it just didn’t work very well. I was torn between buying a new bandsaw or rebuilding this one. That battle raged for about a year. Last week, this old Craftsman won and I gave it a “light” refurbishment.
New paint, new Carter urethane tires, new ball bearing guides on top, a new(ish) 3/4 hp motor, new wiring, new pulleys and a new drive belt.
I’m still waiting on the 5” drive pulley to try it out but it’s basically all done. I just need to reattach the badging and install the blade.
Unfortunately I didn’t get a true before picture until I’d already bead blasted the front cover but the backside shows the original color.
