Hello, I restored a craftsman 115 6962 electric motor for my Atlas Drill Press. New bearings, replaced damaged wiring, and a new capacitor. I finished it off with a media blast and a brand new paint job. I even bought a replica craftsman nameplate with all the specs on it from one of the guys on the Journal. I have checked rechecked and triple checked everything and this motor doesn’t run right. It’s not starting correctly. I can hold the shaft with my bare hand and the motor will just hum until the GFI blows. If I let it go to run up to speed it’s got all the torque in the world. I should also add that occasionally it starts up in reverse. Others feel it might be the capacitor and the original flat style was 24–155 MF 110/125 VAC. The closest thing I could find is 130–1 56MF 110/125 VAC. I’ve done the same thing with other motors and never had a problem so I’m wondering if I’ve got a failure somewhere in the stater? Anything you guys could suggest would be much appreciated. I’ve got a ton of work in this motor and I’d hate to see it Go to waste. Thanks in advance fellas.
