From what I know the new ones are china made. If you're lucky then your local sears has a few USA sets left buried behind the chinas.

The US ones are marked "Made in USA". The newer ones have no country of origin marked on the sockets IIRC.

Ebay seems to be the best place to buy the made in USA ones at the moment. Quite a few auctions of new sets from Sears recent clearance.

Are they USA or China-made?

Most are Chinese now. About three months ago they had the same deal so I went to my local store and picked through their inventory and only found a couple USA-made metric sets. I'm pretty sure if you order online they will be Chinese.

Good deal for USA sets if you can find them, bad deal for Chinese sets.

Not happy about being made in China, but for the price I could not pass up a set of each. I ended up paying $69 w/ tax for a set of standard and metric, that was with the daily sale price, sears2012 and my whopping $5 in rewards points. I would rather have old USA ones, but heck, even if one of those breaks, your getting China anyway...

Was in sears today and there was 1 SAE USA made set and 1 Metric USA made set. Rest were chinese. Unfortunately they were not at the 44.99 price.

I just checked the "standard" link, it shows a price of 38.24, correct price will show in cart.

I bought on the sale price 45 bucks a while back.

I picked up a USA SAE set but all the metrics at the three stores I checked we're Chinese. Might order a set and hope for the best.

I'll say it again, check Ebay. There are people selling brand new USA made Craftsman impact sets for at or below these sale prices for the Chinese stuff. I'm assuming people are either selling sets from the recent Craftsman closeout or Sears was dumping the USA made stuff through other channels. Either way, there has been a steady stream of brand new USA made Craftsman impact sets on Ebay. Any future replacements will likely be from China, but at least you can start with USA made.

replacement as of now are still USA. I'm guessing the open stock of sockets will still be USA until they start running out and then the Chinese sockets will fill in there as well

Received the metric set and they were Chinese. I'll be returning them over the weekend.

I picked up a set of each at two different Sears stores (both USA made of course). At one the guy went online with an ipad (or something) and ordered it for me and somehow transferred the online price to the register. At the other Sears I had to use my computer to order it online for store pick up, I was in the store using their free wifi.

They also had these funky angle wrenches on clearance for $10 a set so I bought a metric and SAE set only to find out when I got home that they're European import ****, they'll be going back.*

* Didn't really get those at Sears today, but they are new.

Yup, it is sad. I ordered them and they ended up being china made, took em right back and bought SK sockets. Why pay so much for Chinese parts? you can get them at harbor freight for $18.

It boils my blood that SEARS is making them in CHINA and then selling them at Made in US prices. :eyecrazy:

Picked up my SAE set today. They'll see use, but not like the pro's so I'm not to worried about breaking them any time soon. Have to check two other stores tomorrow. All the Metrics were Chi-Com at mine.

I haven't seen it mentioned much but search the Sears Outlet stores on line. they have a "products near you" tab. I am finding alot of USA made full polish "Industrial" in the stores here in NC at half price. They get shipments once a week so you have to troll regularly. When I go to the local Sears store and compare the sale prices, I am finding Chinese stuff on the shelves at best 35% off. So huge price difference on much better quality.
BTW, I am not a professional but I've done some heavy projects and I have never broken a socket or breaker bar. Now I've misused a screwdriver as a prybar and utilized the Craftsman guarantee but that was my fault. I don't expect to be returning a whole bunch of broken USA made CM for Chinese replacements unless my workout program makes some real headway in the biceps area. (I'm a fat old man).

I second that, I was in my local outlet store a few days ago and they had a ton of impact sets, regular socket sets, tool sets, and wrench sets. I picked up an impact set that turned out to be USA Industrial. Except it had two 13/16" instead of a 13/16" and 15/16" :headscrat. Also came with a clip rail that is about worthless for 1/2" impacts.

Beware though, the tools are just loose in the cardboard box. Not sure how a set of full polish wrenches would look.

Yep that's what this whole thread is about :eyecrazy:

Also beware...I bought a USA set only to find out someone put Chinese sockets in USA packaging and returned them :scared: didnt realized until I got home, no USA marking on the sockets. Luckily they had another undisturbed US set.

Score!!!
Just got back from the Outer Banks this weekend.
I had checked ALL the Durham stores and two local ones for the Metric set. No dice.
Didn't have time to check in Raleigh. I told my wife to keep an eye out for any Sears on the way to the beach. Found my set at a Sears 20 miles deep on the first Island. Literally had to buy "offshore"!

For those that got the set on sale, was the sale price marked anywhere on the shelf or the packaging? There's one set left at my nearby Sears that I'd love to get but there's no mention anywhere of a discounted price and the set is on one of those security rack things making it a bit difficult to get a price scan on it.

If you can verify they have a US set there, order online with in-store pickup. If they give you a Chinese set, it's really easy to swap it out. Guys at my local Sears are used to it...

I bought the 52 pc set last year when it was still US, honestly they are pretty good sockets and the price is pretty good for US made. HF would only be around $25 less and you'd have a ton of skips.

Just keep them oiled, or they will rust.

Kaervak,
Sears store in strongsville has only Chinese when I was there. I did see one set of US made impacts at the Southland Sears on w130th in middleburg hts and they were marked down.
