Craftsman 12 piece deep offset box in stock

I've been watching those for a sale for a long while. I saw someone with a very familiar name bought a set for about $100 or so plus shipping on eBay yesterday. I think it was yesterday, it might have been today. I was sort of shocked to see someone pay higher than retail for Craftsman!

I need a few deep offset wrenches badly, but haven't been able to find any good ones for cheap lately. I wish the CMan ones would go on sale or I could find some good ones on fleabay.

Saw those in the store the other day, but I still have a perfectly good set of metric/imperial wrenches like that I bought about 30 years ago made in (W) Germany under the Kamasa label...

I wish the 5 piece sets would go on sale, because they are in stores. But currently both sets would cost more than the 12 piece with 2 less wrenches, doesn't make much sense.

I was surprised to see that a 5-6 piece set of polished Husky offsets is regularly $9.99 at Home Depot.

Seems like a great value to me.

I saw that set in the clearance section and lets just say thay it was a good thing that someone was not between me and the wrenches

the also had the Cman polished ratcheting wrenches for $59 but that was not marked down enough for me

I live in visalia so the sears we have is a 'low volume store' so they do not have a big tool department and I am sure they have stuff that they bring in that does not move. they just did a reset of some tool shelves so they had a bunch of stuff on clearance

Our store has a gigantic tool department, and we rarely have anything but junk on clearance. If it is good, it isn't that cheap or it's beat up.

Same here. They did clearance out a bunch of Klein pliers for about $2 one time though. I bought everything.

I got notice about the 12 peice deep offset wrench set being in stock and placed an order right away. I have been wanting this set for a while and was looking forward to getting them.

They showed up today and what I got was pretty disappointing. The larger wrenches have a bend in them. It was visible when I first pulled them out of the package and then sighting down the beam it was obvious.

I held each box on a flat surface and there isn't one wrench that has 2 parallel box ends. By holding the box flat on a table, the beam is at an angle to the table. Some are positive, and some are negative.

Here's a couple pics -- the bend was hard to capture with the camera. Look at the top of the beam.

Both of the box ends are flat on the table - note the different angles, and that they are not parallel to the table.

Is it out of line to take these to the store and dig through the display wrenches to make a set I'm happy with? Am I expecting a level of quality from these tools that just isn't there? Am I being too picky?

On a positive note the chrome looks really good.

I find fractional offset double box ends all the time at the flea market. One of the more common wrenches I notice. I put a set together to keep at work, a Brasil (correct spelling) made one, a couple of Bonney, a Cresent and something else. Easy to make a mix and match set. One or two dollars each usually.

When an Apex [Danaher] reps come on here and states that Sears holds them to strictest levels of quality no i dont think you're being too picky at all. Bent wrenches should never make it passed the quality check. I'd swap it out without a question.

As a followup, I took the whole set to my local store and exchanged all the wrenches I had issues with. The staff was helpful and were able to take care of all my concerns with the exception of the largest metric wrench (not in local stock).
