I just got a GK set of craftsman 12pt 1/2dr sockets and they look identical to the klein tools set I got last year, the inside is painted alum, the outside stamping looks the same and the part where the ratchet fits is the same double indents for the ball of the male square. Even the pinkish chrome finish. So if I were to guess they are SK (ideal) sockets aswell.

Why have USA manufacturers switched to this pinkish crome finish, I think it looks cheap, my two individual purchased in a panic, powerfist 1/2 and 9/16 12pt 1/2dr sockets have a bright chrome finish, and they are made in tawain and cost a 1/4 of what this set just cost me.

I like the USA made tools but hate the pinkish colored chrome finish that they have recently.

Aside from that they look good and being craftsman should last forever.

So is it cheaper? or why have they moved away from the more common yellowish chrome found on older craftsman tools, it can't be environmental as it sounds horrible, also why are they painting the insides with alum colored paint, wny not just chrome the insides, also why would they just not go with the bright white chrome on the cheaper tawain tools
