I'm going to clean up this drill press. It was under a tarp (usually) in a garage where the roof leaked. It operates like it should mechanically. The bolts are all rusted fast and there is way too much rust going on. I coated it with WD40 a year ago when I moved it into my shed to prevent further rust.
If you know of a link for step by strp drill press restoration please share. (I have no internet, my mobile devise won't search through the forum)
What parts to paint
What parts to clean
Polish? Coat? Fasten? Not remove?
So far I took off the head stop and table stop. One was so rusted that the nut welded fast to the clamp popped of. After bead blasting, I welded it back on. A quick sand blast and sent through powder coating. Used a thread restore tool on the nuts, and got new black oxide machine bolts with hex caps to replace the old hardware. Clearly not factory colors.
