Craftsman 150 Bearing Question

Hello, I’m new to this forum so excuse me if this is a repeated question. I am looking at upgrading an old craftsman 150 drill press lower bearing to a double row angular contact bearing. I have looked but can’t seem to find any that are 35mmx5/8 bore. Has anyone done this before? Thanks!

I was actually wanting to upgrade the bearing to an angular contact bearing so I could use the drill as a mini mill. Might not be possible with this drill though.

Angular contact bearings are usually 3000 series ball bearings. Something like 3003, which do exist. But you'd be looking for 3003 5/8 metric/english which I doubt are made by anyone.

The problem with using a drill press as a mill, (other than it's too small and not rigid enough,) is the helix on an endmill will drive the endmill down and it will move in the chuck. You really need a collet system for holding tooling. Also, the chuck may come loose with sideways pressure.

Yeah, I can find bearings that are 17mm bore, but I haven’t been able to find any that are 5/8 bore. I figured it’s just not a thing that manufactures feel is needed.

Those items could be addressed with changing to a collet system and adding a set screw to hold the Morse Taper collet system in though, correct? I’ve seen people convert drills to mini mills, but just not specifically for the Craftsman 150. It may be over my ability.
