Re: Craftsman 150 drill press and other tools

Decided to look for a lathe last night and came up with this one. Not quite the king Seeley model I want but it's a good start.

Just got back with it and looks to be 100% original. Still has a 240v wiring tag hanging from the motor and came with original manuals for the lathe and pedestal stand. Just wish they had og craftsman chisels.

Been researching lathe accessories all day and I think I kind of have an idea on what I want. I got the cheapo grizzly front and (live) rear centers to start off with. Looking at the PSI utility or barracuda chucks. Probably the utility at first and then maybe add a barracuda later on if I get into turning. Found out I have a Woodcraft store nearby so I will at least check it out and see what they have. I know online they have the Nova chuck which is also a possibility but the clamps all add up fast with that line.

I figure if I don't at least have something to get started with I know it will just sit there until I sell it. Funny that almost no lathes come with any chucks and none seem to be posted for sale. I guess people who buy them keep them for life.

Oh and I sold off my other round top grinder today. $120 with the home made stand that came with my 1hp (pics in the block grinder thread). Just have the 1/2 hp block to get rid of and I will have my setup for a pretty good deal. Next to the drill presses, the round top grinders and pedestal stands move pretty quick. People seem to devalue the true blocks which is fine with me. Might end up listing it on ebay.

Not sure whats been going on with pic uploads lately. Getting no permission on tapatalk, super tiny uploads on site and errors if you do more then one. Now I'm getting the sideways uploads as a bonus.

Got the motor oiled up and it purrs nicely. Hard to believe that tag has hung there for 55 years. I don't think anybody ever used this thing. Now I just need to wrap some tape on the motor mount hinges and test it out again. Was getting way too much vibration on the initial test but I think most of that was dry bearings. Might have to get a link belt as this setup is very prone to vibration from anything.

Re: Craftsman 150 drill press and other tools

Picked this up today. Hopefully the pedestal will be my new band saw stand. Looks like somebody didn't like the column mount motor and replaced with a DP table.

Was hoping all the mounts were not specific to the tools but no luck. The sander mount is 2.5 in too short so I'm using some plywood as a temporary adapter. The dp table works great for belt tensioning.

Used the band saw several times last night on it's new pedestal. It's a bit too high so I'll lower the column down as much as I can and drill a big hole in the plywood adapter plate. The fence works awesome, no longer need to drag our the table saw for small rips.

I definitely need some casters for the lathe and band saw pedestals.

Re: Craftsman 150 drill press and other tools

Mt1 centers came today.
Nothing fancy but better then what I had.

The lathe is alive! I ditched the stock motor mount and hooked up a Craftsman motor hinge that was originally on the end of a metal bench. No more rattles and I was able to do my first turning ever. It's currently on the back side of the lathe but I may move it back to the bottom eventually.

My dull cheap tools were able to stop the 1/3 hp motor a couple times but that's a good thing while I learn.

Got a bid on my 1/2 hp grinder last night. Should be an interesting packing experience. Funny how much people are willing to pay on eBay compared to cl and it's all wasted on shipping and fees.

The bench drill press column is the same height as most of the Craftsman pedestal columns. They could actually be interchanged because they also have the same diameter. The pedestal columns may have a thinner wall tho.

IMO, the drill press stand is far superior than the pedestal stands. It is significantly heavier and has a larger footprint making it much more stable. YMMV.

Once you install your grinder or whatever on the stand, the working height is much better. The floor standing set-up is also a great option, depending on the tool to be mounted.

That's awesome about the feed stop collar assembly!

I don't have any column caps available at the moment.
Nice repurpose on the drill press base, collumn and table for the sander!

edit-- sorry I didn't see you quoted FrankLee on tapatalk for some reason... I have a sander on a dp mount as well, but not as nice. I'm actually thinking about selling off my other 6x48 sander for one like his but I have tons of 1x30 belts for my small sander I need to go through first.

Well the only dp part is the table the motor is on. The rest is a factory pedestal for the sander with the paint removed from the column. I just traded the sander mount for a band saw mount and should have a pic soon.

I kind if wanted to have both but needed the band saw more. I think they both look really cool on the pedestal.

All together and set for now. Will probably have to paint the new base at some point.

Yeah, looks awesome.

So it's the OEM bandsaw stand, with a D/P table for the motor on it, Right?
Looks cool.

Yeah 103 model but the pedestal is from a sander. I just traded the top mount part from another member. I need to move the switch because it now sits right next to the pulley and I would like to keep my fingers a bit longer.
