I recently added a on/off switch to the head. I notice the spindle/chuck is spinning the wrong direction. Did I wire it wrong? I admit, when it comes to electrical...it's not my strongest point.

And no, it wouldn't be. The switch and connections are buried in the head. It would be alot of work to find out it was something else and quite frankly I expected a quicker response. Your answer tells me its a possibility, so now I will do exactly that. You may now return to "free parking".

Mostly if a motor is reversible there is a diagram on it (often the on one side or the other of the cover where the wire goes into the motor) showing a couple of leads to reverse or an alternate position for one or two wires.
Pics?
If it is a non-reversible motor, is it double shafted? if so, unbolt it and turn it over...

It's a shot in the dark for me, but I assume that you're using the original motor. Are the contacts for the centrifugal switch (inside the motor) dirty, not together when the motor is stopped, or a wire broken in that circuit. That switch transfers voltage from the start winding/capacitor to the Run winding. If there is a problem in that circuit, or the capacitor is weak, the motor will not know which direction to start.
I had the same problem when I replaced bearings in a 1/2 hp drill press motor, and didn't get the centrifugal switch contacts lined correctly. In my case, it would spin one way or the other.
Also, as stated by Outlaw, check the wiring inside the connection box to ensure that the wires are connected correctly for the correct rotation. My motor is not reversible.
That's all I can suggest.
