Try perhaps the national scale, if whatever micro-environment you're in does in fact think that

My "micro-environment" is the US. People have different opinions and experiences, but it seems the reasons that DeWalt is less popular in industry and trade are due to the durability issues the test reports demonstrate. The tear-down reports showing that some DeWalt and B&D tools are the same inside the case further undermines brand credibility.

There are many reasons Bosch and Milwaukee are the most common hand power tool brands in trade and industry, in the US.

I almost spit all over my keyboard...you think Bosch is more common than DeWalt in the US?

Dude, open your eyes. :wtf:

Again, DeWalt cordless power tools are fundamentally different than B&D in function...I get you think you saw something in a magazine or whatever, but I can ensure you that you are wrong here...

At this point I'm not sure if you're purposefully being sarcastic or you actually believe this. :headscrat

No, the objective data, research, and facts show that Bosch is more common that DeWalt in the US.

You can look up the data yourself, DeWalt's market share is actually less than even I expected. In world market they are not even a major contender.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but the similarities between B&D and DeWalt have been widely documented and are easily verified. If you have ever disassembled a DeWalt tool you will see.

Due to NDAs I can only share public information, sorry I can't share insider information.

Is anyone still buying used C3 stuff? I've been telling my brother to list his set...he doesn't seem to think that is worth the time, maybe for good reason :lol_hitti

Yes, people are still buying used C3 tools. Just look at how fast some of them sell on here. People post them up in the Classified section, and they seem to sell pretty quick.

I just purchased a C3 Right Angle Drill and a C3 4.5 inch Angle Grinder from member toolmutt about a month ago.

I have a lot of the C3 tools that I have been buying and using since they first came out decades ago. I also have about 10 LiOn batteries for them too. You can still buy them if you look around.

I always wanted the right angle drill and the angle grinder, but never bought them when they were in the stores. I recently had a need for the right angle drill when I was putting in my new water softener, because I could not get a regular drill in the space I needed to drill some holes.

When toolmutt put his up for sale I jumped on them. He had them priced very reasonably, and they were in excellent condition. I swear the right angle drill looked like it had never been used. I used the right angle drill as soon as it arrived, and it worked perfectly for what/where I needed it.

If you post up what your brother has, it will sell. Even the Craftsman Nextec line of cordless tools sells out pretty quick.

If there's data that shows Bosch is more commonplace than DeWalt or Milwaukee in the USA, then that data is anything but objective.

Note the claimant isn't posting said data, just referencing it, where it resides next to the fictitious 'review' of a B&D being the same as a DeWalt :shocking:

I have disassembled several; there is zero proof to your claim (which you refuse to support with any sort of fact). The only place Bosch is a contender is Menards, and that's simply b/c Milwaukee and DeWalt (along with many name brands) won't conform to their rebate scheme.

I take it you work for Bosch :lol_hitti

I have disassembled several

If you had you would confirm the facts I posted.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and feel free to buy DeWalt.

The rest of us will keep buying Bosch and Milwaukee since they last in daily heavy use.

Regardless, this discussion is off-topic for a thread on C3 tools. If you want to learn more about DeWalt and discuss this further, please start a thread in an appropriate forum and post the link.

I've finally decided to make the jump to Milwaukee. I got a great deal on M18 Fuel tools for basically the same amount I can sell my C3 for on Ebay. I think I'll keep a couple C3 tools that are expensive in the M18 line (brad nailer, miter saw) and buy a battery adapter to use them with M18 batteries.

It doesn't really help my battery platform issues though. I bought the Cman 24v yard tools cheap last year since I couldn't get a C3 chainsaw, and my older Cman Professional 20V tools aren't worth enough to sell so I'll keep them around as extras. Milwaukee makes some M12 tools I'd really like, which puts me at 4 different battery platforms.

I did decide to sell of my pneumatic impacts though, since the cordless are just as powerful now and I rarely used them with my C3 impacts anyway.

I just did the same, except I went with DeWalt since Murdochs was having a super sale.
This has been my pandemic hobby (I had quite a bit of C3).
The old tools are selling quite well and am easily going to be pretty even in the swap.

I'm also selling off my Nextec for some Milwaukee M12 stuff, but Nextec is proving to be a slower sell. Looking at their kits with the bag, charger and tool sure looks similar!

Sure is nice to have almost everything be brushless and quite a bit of USA assembled tools.

Only thing I am keeping is the shop vac since DeWalt is lacking in that department. I don't mind having a bunch of chargers as long as the tools are worth using.

I have the had the 19.2V cordless drill and 1/2" impact driver since around 2010 and I've had the weed trimmer since around 2014 or 15. All have worked better than expected, but my drill just bit the dust. When I pull the trigger, it will spin if there is no force against the bit. As soon as it encounters any force, it stops spinning and the motor sparks. I might finally make the jump to the Milwaukee M18 line.

I am still using my Sears Craftsman C3 tools. The lights came in very handy during the recent tornado and subsequent power outage. With the LED flashlight and the 4.0 Ah battery, I could light up the hallway all night. I could turn it on before going to sleep, then turned it off in the morning.

One day, I will get around to starting on buying some Ryobi stuff (personal fan, vacuum cleaner, etc.) that would be insanely priced for C3. For now, I have just C3 stuff.

Craftsman C3 powered by Milwaukee M18 :D

I recently picked up a C3 string trimmer to replace my dead Black and Decker one. I would have gone with the M18 string trimmer however, $200 is hard to justify. Even more so since the C3 string trimmer was only $30 from Facebook Marketplace and it came with a dead C3 battery. That dead battery got the wheels turning.

I have a perfectly working XCP 4Ah C3 battery, but it's not going to last forever and it's already seven years old at this point. So, with the dead C3 pack and a knock off M18 power source from eBay I made my own adapter.

The M18 power source was gutted, the outer shell and circuit board have been removed and only the battery connector and lower shell are used. The C3 battery connector and upper shell are all that I've used from that pack. The two halves are hot glued together and are very solid. The only downside to this adapter is since I cut the top C3 pack plate down in size, it no longer stays in the string trimmer. Not an issue for me as I can always hot glue the adapter in place when my XCP pack dies. You could also screw it into the base of the tool, but the hot glue option leaves the receiving tool completely unmodified. A velcro wrap would also work. The M18 battery can easily be removed from the adapter when it's installed in the string trimmer too. Since I had to buy a knock off M18 power source from eBay, my total cost is $13.50. If I had a dead M18 tool or could buy the battery connector separately I'm sure the cost would be less.

I know you can buy an M18 to C3 adapter for $10 more, but it's more fun to roll your own. :D

Anyone have a dead large C3 battery? I am looking to run a quick experiment.

I found a company that specializes in rebuilding Li-ion batteries with higher amp hour cells. I had them rebuild one of my small C3 batteries and compared it with my other small C3 batteries. The rebuilt battery is quite nice...and I can believe their claim of 2.5ah.

I know there are 3rd party companies that sell the large sized batteries; however, I have read many bad reviews of poor materials and malfunctions. This has me curious to how a rebuilt large battery would compare to one of these 3rd party companies batteries.

I would love to run a comparison; but, I don't have any dead large batteries to send in to be rebuilt. Anyone have one they would be willing to send me if I cover the shipping cost???

It's just so hard to commit to changing brands when you're so invested in one. Having three 19.2 drills kept me from constantly switching bits when countersinking.

Lowe's (www.lowes.com) has Sears Craftsman C3 2.6 Ah Li-Ion batteries. I bought a couple this week. Their website showed one at the local store, but there were actually two. I bought both of them. Almost every Lowe's within a couple of hours drive has at least one.

These are the batteries that look like the standard 1.3 Ah battery, but are as tall as the XCP 4.0 Ah / old Ni-Cad.

I hope this helps someone.

Also, keep looking for C3 tools on Facebook Marketplace and other sites. I have recently bought a good bit of C3 tools, even a few I never had before. :) (jigsaw, weed trimmer, leaf blower, stapler/brad nailer and grinder).

I couldn't find C3 batteries on the Lowe's site. Got a link?

Curious how everyone searches the classifieds for C3 tools. "C3" is too short for the search engine on here. 19.2 doesn't pull up anything. Craftsman pulls up a LOT of other stuff...

I just grabbed a used Craftsman C3 Inflator used off eBay, its really great. Just looking for a battery for it. The Lowes website doesn't list any online, and I can't check the stock at local stores online.

I'd fine with a decent generic one if they are nay good. Any suggestions on where you can still get these?

I grabbed an adaptor off of eBay or Amazon that lets me run my DeWalt 20v batteries in the C2/C3 tools. It was approx $25 and seems to work well so far. My only minor concern there is that DeWalt doesn’t have the under voltage protection circuit in their batteries, that is in their tools. I believe Makita and Milwaukee both have the full protection circuit in their batteries.

Check out Amazon for the C3 batteries and chargers. There are tons of them on there.

There are many generic brands that are out there for the old C3 batteries and chargers. Some are good, some not so much. Just check the reviews that say the person is a "verified purchase", which will show up underneath their name.

This will be the reviews from actual people who bought the item, and not people who were given the item for free, or people who are just posting reviews of products they don't have, or never owned.

I have a few of the generic brand C3 batteries for my C3 tool collection. They are the larger 4.0 Ah Lithium Ion versions and they work fine. They are a lot cheaper than the NOS C3 batteries and chargers too.

I bought both Li-ion and NiCd generic batteries, I needed the NiCd for older Craftsman cordless tools which won't accept the indexing of the Li-ion battery cases. I ordered from Amazon prime, and bought from jobbers who have about 1K reviews. I got the 4 amp/hr packs for both, and so-far they are working fine. I bought two of each, and the total cost shipped was the price of one C3 XPR 2 amp/hr Craftsman battery at Ace Hardware.

My 19.2 Cman C3 li-Ion batteries fit my my older 19.2V tools but the older chargers only work with the older type batteries.

I think I have an extra lithium charger that is unused I'd be willing to part with. Let me know if you're interested.

If fact, to consolidate my power tools into fewer platforms, I may be selling all my C3 stuff, most of which is like new.

If you do go ahead and want to sell them, please post them up in the Classified section.

People, like me, love the C3 collection, and we are always looking for that one tool that we never were able to get.

For me, that tool was the C3 nail/brad gun. I talked myself out of getting one because I had a manual brad shooter that I used all the time, and the C3 nail/brad gun, sold as the tool only, was $65.00 at the time (around the year 2012)

I thought that was too much to pay for it back then because I would probably only use it a few times a year. Can you imagine my surprise when I see what they want for that now on ebay!! Damn.

I started buying the new Ryobi One 18V stuff lately because it is cheaper to buy the tools I want from them, which come with a battery and charger, than pay 4 or 5 times more than that on a similar C3 tool only on ebay.

People here seem to want "discounts" when we post C3 tools on the classifieds. I posted several at a little below market price and no one was interested.

Often better to list them on Ebay and get the much higher prices.

I have another six or so C3 tools to sell, including some rare ones, but not willing to give a 50% discount to sell them here.

Also a public service announcement - beware the buyers who ask for the "date code" to "confirm the tool is real". They are apparently trying to get serial numbers in some kind of scam, not sure what.
