Rats...I paid that much for the 17 piece last month.

Well, I guess I technically didn't, since it was missing a piece and the customer service people just told me to "keep it as a gift" instead of shipping the one piece.

Found a set the other day in my local hardware store where one of the tips wasn't machined into a phillips head.

These are nothing more then throw away scresdrivers. I have bought many of them over the years and they never fail to disappoint but luckily they are just for junk work to be beat on and tossed. Bent shafts. Heads not machined right. Tips round over. You name it.

What screwdrivers do you prefer?

I've used these screwdrivers for years, and have never had any issues with them. Actually I have used several high quality screwdrivers, and these still seem to be the ones I grab out of my box first. I don't under stand why all the hate, unless they are not holding up to purposeful abuse.

Agreed. The only ones that I have seen fail are the ones my brother insists upon using as pry bars in automotive applications.

Snap on at my go to but there are many other brands that are just as good or better. But my go to are snap on.

When they fail so often they are then used and bought for the intent to be obused since that's all there good for. Hell the 8 dollar pro set from HF puts these to shame.

I saw this at my local Sears last winter. Makes me think twice about spending money on Craftsman drivers made today, even $1 per.

(If you can’t see the photos, it’s a brand new slotted driver with the tip twisted.)

How this passed any kind of QC is beyond me...

I still use this type of set that I bought back in the early 90's (Not exclusively). Mine have held up well, but I thought the quality of these made in the last 20 years has gone downhill with much of the Craftsman tools. Am I incorrect?

Couldn't agree more. Factory duds aside (just warranty it out), I'm convinced people think most Craftsman stuff is junk because they abuse the **** out of their tools. Even HF stuff holds up reasonably well in most applications if used for the job intended. If you take one of these Cman screwdrivers with a butyl handle and start using it as a chisel, what the **** do you expect to happen? Buy some chisels you cheap ****.

You know how people always brag on their Wera's and **** by posting photos of the phillips ones hanging in a fastener?

Boom! How's that for a snug fit in a fastener?

My assumption is that it did not leave the factory that way, I doubt they do anything at the factory that could bend it that way. I bet someone did it at the store and just put it back in the holder

I would certainly hope that screwdrivers that are 30x more expensive are indeed better.

No, the SO's are only 20 times more pricey. lol. But really, there are tons of price points in between the CM's and the SO's -- Williams, GW, Wera, Wiha, Vaco, etc..

I have a full set of Vaco orange handles screwdrivers (phillips, slotted, torx) and a Mac Tools 1/4 hex bit holder (accepts bits), and I have a couple sets of the HF Pro ones and even the HF 6 piece el cheapo set. I bust out the cheap ones for dirty, non-precise jobs or if there's a chance the tools will be given away.

I installed the neighbor lady's license plates with some HF ones and then handed them to her. She had none.
