If any students are looking for a socket set, this is the one to get. Use your student discount and get them for $237+tax, and pretty sure it will stack with the $20 in points code as well.

These are no longer made in USA, fyi, probably why it's so cheap now

Sears has been doing this with a lot of their newly outsourced tools. The original price didn't change, but now they go on sale for a lot cheaper than they used to when they were still made here.

Wish Sears would have thoght up that laser-etching idea a long time ago, when they were USA made - back when I was a kitten, it didn't bother me to read the sizes without glasses; now that I'm ancient, it's a real PITA!

Looks like a darned nice starter set; one that will likely carry you thru many years!

They did offer the laser etching on the USA made sockets, in the last couple years of production. Originally, they tried to only have the laser etching, but found that it fades and wears, so they switched to dual-marking which has both the old stamping as well as the new laser etching.

It's great, I bought the complete Craftsman set a few months ago when they were still old stock USA-made so that I could have all of my sockets laser etched. It's much more convenient!

I bought three sets back in Nov. of last year trying to get a USA set and No luck. I have a complete 1/4 drive USA set and the quality difference is noticeable, even my wife noticed it. But still worth the money i guess

Yeah. I told him he got lucky. Also it was missing a 11mm 3/8 drive 6pt. shallow so he called to try and get them to send one. They would not send him the socket but they gave him a 5% refund back on his credit card. That was a great deal.

USA made is hit or miss, I picked up the 299 set in oct or nov and it is 100% made in USA! Pretty excited about that, the previous 3/8" set I got for the truck was china as well as a sale on 3 low profile ratchets.

50% off code is in store only and not valid on hot buy, sale, clearance, or every day low price.

Why not use them to order the stubby wrench set you were going to get?

I guess I got lucky, hope everyone else does. I just ordered the 299pc set on Sunday and it came in this afternoon stamped USA.

So tempted since I can get the college discount, but I need a place to store all those sockets first and I'm spending too much money as is. LOL

Got these in the mail yesterday. They were not US made unfortunately, but I don't care enough to return them. So in my toolbox they went

I bet the finish on them is better than my USA set!

I did an online chat with sears yesterday. thee 308 set is now made in taiwan and the 299 is made in china. There are no 308 usa sets available at warehouses but if you chat or call sears and ask for a usa 299 set they will check inventory and send you one if available.

Maybe, :dunno: but I'm not one to really care. It is a socket, doesn't have to look perfect to preform its job. And these were cheap enough to were I don't care if they aren't US made, although it would have been nice. But a comparable set of sockets would have cost much much more from another company if I wanted US made. And in the case of sockets I don't personally think it matters as long as they use high quality steel.

Here are everything but the 1/4in laid out (I never use 1/4in so they will go in a separate box)
