That is about as good as they set gets. I bought that set last year for $199. ( which is a common promo price...about every 3 weeks or so).

Just got my first house and need a good socket set. What do you guys think about this one? Seems like it should have most of what I may need

They're blocking discount codes for it currently, but it does go down to $169.99 when they have a sale that does allow the codes.

It has even got down to $150.99 after promo code, during a Family & Friends event.

FYI: This set does not come with a case.

Look hard! I found 3 USA sets left at my local Sears. They are far and few in between. They had manufacturer dates of around 6/2013-ish.

Thanks for the advice. I found a USA set at a local store yesterday, but the price was back up to $279.99. The manager wouldn't work with me on the price, but I went to another Sears and that manager sold me a Chinese set at the $189 price. Took the Chinese set back to the other Sears and the manager was happy to exchange it for the USA set. Why in the heck he wouldn't just sell me the USA set at $189 to begin with I don't know. Obviously managers have quite a bit of discretion on things like that.

As an aside, and take this with a grain of salt because I've heard **** like this before, but the manager at the store that gave me the $189 price was really cool. I struck up a conversation with him about the USA vs. China issue, and he said that they would very soon be marketing sets again that are 100% made in the USA, but at a slightly higher cost premium (his example was that a $99 Chinese set would probably run about $125-130 for a USA version). I for one would gladly pay the extra.

How can you tell the USA made sets from the china made? Are they labeled like that?

The USA boxes are taller (about 1.5-2") and say "Assembled in USA of domestic and foreign parts."

The foreign parts are the ratcheting wrenches, everything else is made in the USA.

Uhh..i had this page opened too long and didn't refresh...What Super Sport said!

This set looks nice for the price if i didn't already have 20 of everything and had no tools id get this. I think its great for a starting a tool kit to build from especially with so many sockets of all types.

Bought one for my son. ( delivered). Coo china, took it to the local sears and exchanged it for the only USA made set available. The price had gone to $279. We did an even swap.
