New here. First off thanks for letting me join. I'm 64 and have a basic understanding of electrical wiring, but I had a DA attack. I bought anice Craftsman bench grinder off a widow of a fellow that recently passed. The hood on the light on was broken. So I ordered a new one from WEN. Just a simple two wire light with a switch. Now I don't know if the original had a switch or not, but like an idiot, thinking it wasn't hard to wire in I disconnected it not paying attention to how it was wired. It has a 4 wire switch, a 4 wire capacitor, and 3 wires coming from the motor. 2 black and 1 white. If I wire it one way the light works but not the grinder. The other the grinder works but not the light. Any ideas? Thanks. I'm attaching this pic. If more are needed I'll take more.

you might need a post more details about your bench grinder and see if any one owns that same model or trying to figure out from wiring.

is that switch labeled KND8 just on/off ? if so. then it's just a regular Double pole single throw DPST switch most likely just on/off switching both Neutral and HOT.

Don't see a capacitor in that pic, so you'll have to post some pic of the cap. 4 wire capacitor ??? probably odd for single speed bench grinder.

This is my guess: you should verify with a multimeter of how your motor connections goes.. there are few variation of AC motors ....

most grinders are just split phase motors.. so you would normally have 3 wires from motor it self.

one wire is for neutral, one wire is for HOT... the last wire is connector inline with the cap then to HOT.

which ever wire you connect the capacitor inline dictate the rotation.

Also describe something about that light... does it have its own on/off or it's on/Off from that KND8 DPST switch.

Yes it does. Thanks for responding. There is a capacitor in the pic but I'll post a more detailed one tomorrow.
