Have one of those. I've put quite a bit of fiberglass dust through it and it still keeps going.

I found a 5" dewalt angle grinder for $39.60 at Lowes on Saturday. It was on clearance as Lowes is only going to carry 4 1/2" dewalt models now. The cheapest I could find that model grinder for online is $79, with most prices being in the mid-$90 range.

Anyone interested should check their local Lowes for this deal.

it's the same as all the other less than $20 grinders as found at Harbor Freight, Northern Tool, Tractor Supply, etc etc etc. Heck, I wouldn't doubt they're all made in the same Chinese plant.

Sears's website is hurting. If it's a 4" grinder it should have a 3/8" spindle. But the text claims it has 5/8"-11 to accept a "wide range of 4.5" accessories."

Which is it?

I have to agree it looks cheap, but it IS cheap. The spindle housing and shape of the vents definitely echoes that of every other low-dollar grinder, which, again, it is! Probably be fine for shadetree use for many years.

If it's truly a 6A motor that's respectable for cheap angle grinders.

If I were going to spend more than $50 on a grinder, I'd buy a used Metabo or a Makita off eBay. Metabo is where it's at.

Under $50, just buy the orange HF unit. Hell, buy two. I use my HD grinder for heavy-duty extended tasks, and the cheap ones for a flap disc and wire wheel to surface-prep for welds. :)

A good grinder with a cutoff wheel, a cheap one with a flap disc, and another with a wire-wheel or grinding stone will really speed your work up, and won't break the bank.

That looks like the same one I have, except mine is black instead of gray. Got it as a Christmas gift back in 2001, I think. I really like it, and having used the Horrible Fright grinders as well as the Milwaukee ones, I'll say mine is much closer to the upper end on quality. My only complaint is the metric Makita-style spindle that make it hard to find anything but regular grinding discs for it.

Of course, a lot of outsourcing and cost cutting may have happened in the last 6 years...
