Excellent post. I find those things inhumanly handy. Finally something to burn my points on.

I have 2 sets of these and the handles are not tight at all. They spin or fall off. I had to peen them a few times to tighten them up.

I've had a set of these picks for years. They work really well for all sorts of random things. Never had an issue with the handles like someone else mentioned.

I just get the Harbor Freight set. If/When they break, easy enough to replace.

I ordered and f'n sears website changed my store. I kept changing back and final order at wrong store.

No biggie but aggravating.

are the tips screwed into the handles? if so cant you loctite them?

No, they are not. I have a set and use them frequently but the handles and working ends do separate easily when I apply any amount of twisting torque to the hooked ends. Sometimes frustrating but to be expected at that price point.

Do the handles slip off of these hooks and picks?

1. Remove handles.
2. Drop a couple drops of super glue into the handles (or couple drops of Gorilla Glue).
3. Quickly reinstall handles.

No more slip.

I broke the tip off of the "complex" pick but the handle didnt budge at all. I wonder if they have QC issues.

I have the long version of that set. The picks are screwed into aluminum handles, and they're always loosening up on me. Yeah, I need to loctite them.
And the rubber handles do slide a little on the aluminum. I could probably find some adhesive for that too.

For what it's worth, I still like them, and they do their job just fine.

They do like the picks screw into the handles, but as of now, mine are in there very tight. I really could have used these last week during a spark plug change. If they do begin to rotate within the handles, some loctite will do the trick.

^ same here. manufactured, if I am not mistaken, by Ullman. the "hook" one snapped first time I used it (to remove a return spring on a Snapper RWD walk-behind mower.) Sears replaced the entire set with no hassle.

I found a nice set of Wilde picks for about $20 bucks on Ebay. skinny handles but they seem a bit more reliable.

whoa... looks like I paid too much - $14 bucks including shipping:

I bought the same set back in 2012. It's a nice set for the money and very handy to have. I think it's the same set that Ulman makes.

The 7-inchers are press-fit into the handles approx. 3/4". Ullman, or whoever the manufacturer is put some type of adhesive in the bore but it doesn't work well.

Sears is so aggravating, no wonder I rarely go there.

Local Sears only has regular price, plastic handled (as suggested by DanielSimpsonDay) was on sale but only $2 off. Unlike the other 3 customers waiting for a sales person, I didn't have the time to wait and argue with them.

The good news is that I had my choice of any of the parking spaces right by the front door!

Argue about what?

Just place the order online for in-store pickup. They can even bring the order out to your car.

Yes the online price is usually cheaper than in store purchase .
Most of the deals are online order only.

I picked mine up at a mall location the other night. Full price of $8.99 on the rack. The kid price matched at the register. Not sure if that's new or not. In the past I've had to order on my phone and take it up there.

I have these and have been very pleased. They survived a fire (not actually burned) and got some surface rust but some Evaporust and 320 grit wet dry sandpaper cleaned them up good. Have been invaluable cleaning up my salvageable tools. Handles have not slipped off with frequent use.

everything I have purchased at sears in the last 12 months, tell them it was cheaper online and they match the price I tell them it was. 1/2 the time they do not even look at my phone (where I have the website pulled up with the item)

now, I have been honest with the prices, so I assume they know the online price for the items on sale that week.
