Yeah. I can't speak for the Quiet Glide, but have them in the Griplatch Ball Bearing version and LOVE them. They could be deeper, but *shrug* I'm just a regular guy and don't have a huge budget.

the problem there, and the reason to wait till you can afford a little better boxes is the ""Quiet Glide"", once you get a couple years wear and a bunch of tools in there the drawers will stick and be hard to open and close.

I cant understand a company that makes non ball bearing slides any more, the difference in the cost of the two types of slides cant be much at all.

My guess is that it's a marketing thing. They probably figure they can charge more for the BB with that middle range in there.

that top chest is only 100lbs. that's very light for 40" wide box... one of my gladiator 26" wide top chests weighs the same... that's very thin metal.

My 44" HF top chest weighs 285 lbs +/- empty. And I notice the drawer weight limit is 50 lbs per drawer on the C'man boxes, that means you can have a wrench set in a drawer, most of a socket set in another, thats really a very low weight limit. Most boxes are well over 100 lbs to 200 lbs per drawer. MechanicNamedJohn took this pic of his HF 44" bottom cabnet. -

I buy a lot of Craftsman tools. I recently bought the limited edition combo for about $270. The quality wasn't there, so I took it back. I went with the Harbor Freight 42" cabinet. At that time, Sears had the 40" Griplatch model for half price, it's a nicer unit IMHO than the Quiet Glide, which I inspected on a trip to Sears last week. I'm glad I went with the HF for $350, it really seems like a better unit than the 40" Griplatch, even paying half price.

I think the Quiet Glide units are just too close in price not to go with the Ball Bearing. Like Super Sport said, it's just a maketing thing, designed to make people happy with higher priced units.

The Quiet Glide 40" unit was also in the August Craftsman Club flyer.

I have a couple of Quiet Glide chests and a couple of ball bearing griplatch chests. If someone used them daily, I could see skipping the Quiet Glide. Quiet Glide is OK for the weekend wrencher.

The Quiet Glides were ok in the older well made boxes. Once they cheapened them up, the true crapiness of the quiet glide show up compared to a BB drawer.
