Another reminder, check ALL your parts to make sure they are what they are supposed to be. At least 2 people have gotten burned by sets with incorrect tools, and it's not immediately obvious at a glance.

This set is great!

A while back I goobered up a wheel stud while working on my Mustang - the threads on the stud where deformed enough that the nut wouldnt spin back on once the wheel was mounted. Now mind you, this was after a long day's work as I was going to put the wheel back on, so the thought of having to replace wheel studs was none too appealling. In a semi panic, I reached for this Craftsman thread restorer kit and wouldnt you know? The 1.25 thread file wroked perfectly! Save my **** that day and well worth the $40 or so I paid for it.

Just ordered the set this morning, with free shipping it was about $200 CND, boy the exchange rate is killing me.

Actually it was about $48 CND with tax and I had it shipped to my mail box in Lynden WA.

I have needed one of these kits about 10 times in the last few years, but now I'll probably not need it as much now that I have it.
But I think I said that about my tap and die set, but it's one of my favourite tool sets and I've used it dozens of times since I bought about 2 years ago.

I received the set and everything was there and looks nice although the sizing is hard to read on the pieces. I did try using it but the one gripe I do have is I wished they had slightly smaller thread sizes, I ended up not being able to clean up some threads because my bolts & nuts were too small. My fault for not looking at the included sizes. It will still be very useful for larger nuts and bolts.

A lot screws I needed to be restored on a vintage table saw are too small for this set as well as several bicycle restoring projects I'm in the middle of. Something smaller than 1/4" or a No.6 would be very useful for me. I could use a 3/16" all day.

Check your 1/4" fine OD thread die. Mine came with 2 of the 5/16 fine dies. And so far, I've been unable to get them to correct the issue.

My set came with 2 of 9/16 course dies and no 5/8. Also the sticker chart was for the 40 piece. I wonder how they're going to correct that - will I have to return it?

Update: Chat rep said I have to return it and replace the order. What a hassle...

I could use a 3/16", 5mm, 4mm. I could also really use a 1/8" but thats asking for too much. I could very often use these in those sizes, much more than anything larger than 1/4".

Does anyone know where I can find thread restores in these sizes? I googled but had no luck.

I think this is a great tool. It serves to simply clean existing threads much better than regular tap and die. Looks like Sears is in the process of clearing them out. Made by Kastar, for less money. I picked up a couple extra to sell later.

I agree about having more sizes especially smaller ones.

Today I used the kit for the first time and it already paid for itself.
Friday I bought a used Craftsman Professional cabinet table saw and when I tried removing the side wings, seven out of eight M8-1.25 bolts were stripped and were a bear to remove. What was left were seven holes on the main cast iron top that looked partially threaded with a ton of metal shavings coming out of the holes. Spent half an hour cleaning the threads and was able to re-install the wings with new bolts. I even cranked hard on some of them to see if they would hold and they did perfectly.

I noticed this set is currently a "hot buy" at $54.96. Does anyone remember what it has dipped down at it's lowest? I went back through this thread a little to look for it, but there are numbers galore with everyone trying to get it as cheap as possible. Anyways, I'd like to pick one of these up and was just wondering what price I should look out for.
