Craftsman 50 pc Pro Screwdriver Set???

I want a good set, but I'm an OLD DIY'r, not a professional wrench turner...I think these would do everything I would need them for, but I'm reluctant to spend this much without some Adult Supervision from the board...

Not a bad price, wish they would just package up their long screwdrivers into an individual set. Probably a little more there than you would ever use...probably a little more than I would ever use professionally as well.

For what I work on and not being a pro wrencher, that's way out of my price range. Damn nice set though. I'm sure someone on here has bought a set.

No. It breaks down to about $7.74 a piece but, do you really need all of those screwdrivers? I have most of that set. They're decent drivers but, i'd look for a smaller set of the sizes I used most and not make that large of a cash outlay for those.

That's a pretty good deal, especially for what you get. I have a whole lot of the Craftsman Pro screwdrivers, the cutters and needle nose too and they're a good value. Those screwdrivers are just SK cushion grips, but at a discount over SK.

I think there's some stuff you won't need, but it's still a good value even taking that into consideration.

I have a pair of those side cutters and needle nose pliers that I bought on clearance. I really like them but don't know if the Chicom will be the same quality or if the are US. I assume that once they put items on low clearance that they are clearing the way for the replacements to come in.

Well apparently all those screwdrivers are discontinued now, so get them while you can if you want them, but the warranty on them is useless.

All the individual Pro screwdriver sets sears use to sell have pretty much been eliminated. The pliers are long gone also. Both are/were excellent. Cant say how good of a deal that is though, I want to say the master screwdriver set they use to sell (no pliers) was about $120...

If you're going to buy discontinued products you'd be better served shopping the deep discounts from Cripe until you get everything you want.

Do you need the wrenches and pliers? The 106pc screwdriver only set is $242. Only 42pcs are actually screwdrivers though, the rest are bits. Just another option if you want every one of the pro drivers.

My pliers are in worse shape than my screwdrivers...

My wife told me to buy NEW tools, now that I'm retired, and can actually devote some time to my projects...starting with restoring the 1993 K1500 Chevy pickup, I bought new...

The high lighted set covers all my bases...

I just wondered about the board's opinion on their value...

Not to pick on Craftsman, and I'm sure they're fine, but for 387 bucks I could go to Chadstoolbox, nepros.net, toollady.com, levelchrome, etc. and buy an awful lot of cool stuff.

Yea this *****. I have an old black handle craftsman pro set. Really nice. I had to replace one of tiny ones as I twisted it in half. They only had the newer red / black set. It works, but I do not like it as much as the rest of my black cman pro's. It feels really strange. I am in my 20's and I can honestly say that craftsman ain't what it use to be just in my short life time. I can't imagine how the older folks feel that lived through the V series days.

The craftsman pro screwdrivers, at lest use to be, really good and highly regarded for their value. I haven't had much experience with the new red / black pro drivers, though.

I have a smaller set of that Craftsman Pro line of screwdrivers, I think they're easily as good of quality as the best stuff out there.

I'd personally though pass on that particular set, purely because there's just no way you actually need all of those. Do you really need 25 or so different flat head screwdrivers?

Also, if Sears no longer carries these, they'll probably give you one of their ****** basic lines as a replacement that's not even worth the gas to go down there.

I'd recommend instead something like a set of Wiha (I also have them and love them) or the Williams set that's basically just the Snap On's with a different handle.

A basic set of 12 or so screwdrivers should be enough to handle 99.9% of any task, unless you're in some really specialized field. I'd use the leftover money to buy some Knipex plier sets.

If you're going to buy that set, sweeten the deal with the $35 off $300 coupon code. you'll get it down to $352, comes out to $7.04/item; not bad considering the really long ones are usually $10-$15, but the smaller screw drivers you can usually get for a bit less in smaller sets or on clearance. not a bad deal, but not so hot that i'd jump on it without thinking about it.

Until they cancel their contract with WF and find some Asian supplier if they haven't already done so anyway. They use to have tons of sets online. Now they're pretty much all gone except for a few stragglers. Stores had a number of individuals and sets on clearance last year as well.

Maybe add in a Phillips #3 and #4 and a 5/16 slotted and 3/8 slotted and you are done.

You couldn't get me to touch the normal Craftsman slotted drivers with a 10 foot pole. I've bent or snapped off the ends of more of them than I can count. I've replaced a few, but just ground down or threw away most.

My local Sears still has all of the standard and long length Professional sets. They did clearance the short ones about a year and a half ago, but they still list the short Torx drivers on their website. I'd buy the long ones piecemeal anyway, their long set only has one long Phillips, which is probably what most would need. Their only glaring omission is a #3 Phillips in any length. Apparently they were discontinued, and the one or two I've seen on eBay guys want an insane amount of money for.

Interesting about the P3. The Craftsman Pro P3 is available in both Sears in my area, and in Ace Hardware down the street. I can also pick up the P4 from Ace as well and did a few weeks ago. The next day there was a P4 on the rack in it's place

I have most of that set that I bought 5-7 pieces at a time. Its not often I need the really long drivers but hey, if you get the set you will have everything covered that I would run into. I don't need the pliers or any of the looooong sizes so I buy in smaller groups but the drivers themselves are just fine. Soon after I bought the C'Man Pros I bought a Williams few sets. I use those nearly every time I need a driver but like having the C'Man's around.

I use my Craftsman screwdrivers a lot. Over the past 40+ years I probably have replaced everyone of them, so they are all pretty new !

I'd take that amount of money and set myself up with Wiha or Wera screwdrivers and Knipex pliers. I've had craftsman pro pliers and screwdrivers and liked them. Wiha, Wera, and Knipex are upgrades though, no question.

Consider yourself lucky on the P4 as that is discontinued and what you are getting is leftover NOS.

So those like myself that have the majority of the discontinued drivers, we have no direct replacements. Such is life.

That's what I have, and I got it for $130 or so from amazon. Heck of a deal. Excellent screw drivers. Already more than I'll ever need.
