I was just given a Craftsman #506 vise. I wanted to strip it and paint it, but I'm honestly not 100% sure how to disassemble it. Any help fellas?

Before I tell you how to take it apart does your vise look similar to this one?

OK, open the vise all the way and keep on going. Pull the whole slide assembly forward and remove it from the stationary jaw.

Flip stationary jaw over and remove center pivot bolt/screw. Loosen and remove the swivel lock nut and handle.

The main nut inside the will now slide out towards the back.

Remove both sets of steel jaw inserts with a philips screwdriver.

now heres the hard part, getting the spindle out of the dynamic jaw. Flip the dynamic jaw assembly upside down and look inside at the main screw. There's some type of keeper there holding the screw in. It rides in a groove. If it's a pinched ring then you have to spread it and get it off. This is just something you'll have to mess with and it's never fun.

Good luck.
