Craftsman 5168 Vise

I own a Craftsman 5163 vise (pictured below), and know that they made a number of different size vises in this series. The largest I am aware of is the 5168 which had 8 1/2" jaws, opened up to 14", and weighed in at 345 lbs. Has anyone here ever even seen one of those monsters? If you have, please share any photos you may have of it.

That is a stunner Maui. I love everything about it. IHNI that such a large specimen of CM vise was offered via Rock Island ( or Reed?)?

Thanks Allfast! I believe these were made by Rock Island, but can't say that with certainty.

I've seen the same stats quoted for the fabled Craftsman 5168 but as far as I can tell, they trace back to an otherwise barebones listing on vintage vises. I have still never seen a picture of such a vise, though my understanding is that a handfull have been unearthed by Garage Journal members.

I guess what I'm saying is I want to believe, but the thing still ranks up there with the Yeti and the Loch Ness monster as far as I'm concerned.

I think you are correct, for if there was one, we’d certainly have seen such a beast on the boards by now
