Hey all,
In my quest to leave no vise unrestored I came across this nice Craftsman vise. It wasn’t in bad shape but I figured I could make it better. I honestly don’t think it was ever used, maybe just spent it’s life hanging out in a garage or shed.
Had my first shot at blueing, that was a fail.
For some reason it came out looking blue and purple and not black as I’d seen on several videos. I used Birchwood super blue. The swivel lock barely changed color at all so I didn’t even try the handle. Maybe they were too chrome ish. Even the jaws wouldn’t turn black, tried several coats as directed. So I wire wheeled it back to how it is now.
Paint is rustoleum hammered pewter. I think it turned out pretty good. I had to grease the heck out of the screw and it still kind chatters in and out. Might not be use to gliding so smoothly, it had zero grease on it initially.
